It is not clear whether the light and outlet have a common hot wire. I want to have a fixture where the light and outlet operate independently.

Answer:
The pull chain does not turn the outlet off, only the light. I have a 4-foot LED fixture, which looks like a two-bulb fluorescent fixture, plugged into the outlet. The LED fixture has no on/off switch, so I need to unplug it when leaving the area. It is in a crawl space, so this lamp holder is in easy reach for plugging/unplugging the LED fixture when needed.

I need to hook up another light. It would be nice if I could use the outlet to plug it in and control it with the same pull chain.

Answer:
Sure, add a switch to the wall. It will power both light and outlet at the same time. I am going to purchase to replace the ones in my garage that are already tied into a wall switch. I will then add an LED shop light to each outlet so that my garage finally has the light it deserves.

the backside electrical is one piece of metal. there are no wires that run from between the socket and lampholder. the only wires are to the lampholder. some models may have a third
wire (green) for the grounding prong

Answer:
Good day,
The pull chain on the 9726-C will only control the light bulb. The outlet on the side of the lampholder will always have power. There is no other way to wire this device to have the pull chain control both the light and the outlet.

Can the socket (and pull chain) be wired separately from the outlet so I can control it from the wall switch (dimmer)?

Answer:
internally (backside) a metal connection runs from the lampholder to the socket but bypasses the pull chain on off switch so the socket is always on. the issue with trying to rewire the fixture is related to the wattage it can support and the amps the circuit can support. then there is the issue of local and state electrical codes..

The TBL03 is rated for dimmable LED/CFL bulbs; it is not designed to be used with non-dimmable LED or CFL bulbs.

I bought a few of these to replace the old ones in my garage and in the attic. The inner holes are not punched out, and it doesn't matter how gently you try to punch them out, it cracks all the other porcelain. Then when tightening, no matter how gently you snug them up, it also cracks the porcelain. Find a different brand.

I don't use the pull chain and wire both to their own switch. Im not sure why I picked porcelain aside from it being a bit antique and I wanted an extra outlet just in case. My only caution with these is to be careful how tight you tighten the screws, you can damage the porcelain.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pull Chain broke at base after one year The pull chain broke at the base after one year. Long term durability gets poor rating. This review section is ridiculous. It said my review is too short, so I am going to complain about the review process to help fill up space. Geez.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never replace one again OK, I have had one for a few years and the chain finally broke. Like all things they wear out, nothing lasts forever. Here's how you will never have to replace one again. After I installed another one like this one, I leave it always on. Then I purchased a 2-Outlet White Socket with Pull Chain from Home Depot and then put my bulb into that socket and use that pull chain. If it breaks, I only have to unscrew replace the 2-Outlet White Socket with Pull Chain. No electrical work. Plus I have 3 outlets.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality switch Appearance- and installation-wise, it's fine. The porcelain is good; the outlet and socket are okay. The switches on these Leviton pull-chain models are about as chintzy as can be. I have bought several of these over the years because of availability and price, but no more. I'm tired of having to replace them every few years -- or more often, sometimes. What value is there in having to keep replacing them? I'm done with Leviton. As of now, I'm trying the brand sold at one of the competitors' stores.
