The auger is a good looking, strong instrument, firmly welded, with a tough paint job.
It worked very well in firm soil or semi firm soil. However when used in soft soil it gets pulled into the ground, so hold your drill tightly.
I mainly use it in a raised garden, so I cut 5 inches off the shaft, then filed the end in a triangular shape for a better grip in the drill. It works!

This large size bit amply served its purpose. We had 90 daffodil bulbs to plant: less than and hour later all were in the ground with husband and wife working together. Yes, at times you had to hang onto the drill if you hit a root or a tough spot but that was only occasionally. Now we just have to settle back and wait to see if our bulbs come up in the naturalized area of our yard. If they do we will be planting more next fall. Meanwhile, we are looking to using the auger bit for bedding plants in the spring.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Morgul Makes planting much easier
Our Cape Cod home is on three feet of topsoil choked with roots and rocks, on top of 28 ft of clay. Using the auger is far easier and faster than using a garden trowel. It goes through small roots and rocks, although a rock larger than about 2" diameter or a root larger than 3/4 inch will stop it. You will need a drill with fairly high torque to get through heavy soil. When the auger was stopped the drill still turned, wearing on the auger shaft. I think the auger would work better if the shaft ended in flats that the drill chuck could grip more tightly.

This tool did not work as I had hoped. Using very little pressure in damp ground it would stop rotating inside the keyless chuck while the motor continued to run. A hex-shaped end would likely be a big improvement.

The auger blades width moved dirt and stones . Length of shaft just right to attain a six inch depth.

I bought this with the intention of using it to turn my compost pile that I have in a 3'x3' bin. On a cordless 1/2" drill set on low speed, it works well for what I wanted it for. Allow it to auger in just until it starts to spin without penetrating any deeper, stop, pull back out, repeat. I did have some viney weeds that I had thrown into the one corner of the compost bin, and they did want to tangle on the auger. In the future I will be putting viney type compost materials onto a seperate pile that will be turned in another manner.
I gave it 4 stars, as i tried to auger into the ground just to see if it would hold up to it's intended use. We have very heavy clay here, and this tool had trouble making pockets in the ground. I'm sure it would do fine in lighter soils.

I use this for dirt drilling under sidewalks so I can run electric or plumbing lines, etc... I have 2-24 inch extensions and can add one at a time but can drill all the way across... saves a lot of time digging..., and saves you from having to destroty the concrete. after you drill hole you can just run your pipe or conduit right thru it...

The tool is designed for bulb planting in the garden. Good job there. However, I use it to drill a hole in the sand for our beach umbrella. It really does the trick!
