Answer:
I used it on the back of a piece of art to create storage for sunglasses, so the magnet was on the back of the art and the metal was on the wall. For a cabinet, you would install the metal plate on the cabinet door and the magnet latch inside the cabinet. It should work well for that purpose.

I am tired of replacing the cheap (economy) magnetic catches inside my window shutters. The sun bakes them and they crack after a short period of time.

I can not find aluminum white ones (do they exist?) and the Home Depot person told me to check online. I found your Heavy Duty ones, but don't know if they will fit? Your economy description on the HD site shows 1 1/2 on center for the holes. I could not find anywhere on the site where you give this product's hole measurements. Are they the same as the economy ones?

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for DIY Project I used this magnetic catch for a DIY sunglasses storage solution. It was very easy to install, although I went with command strips to adhere it to my wall so not to make holes. Its been in use for about a month and no issues at all. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sturdy Door Catch These are easy to install and do a good job of holding the cabinet doors closed. I only had to use one on my pantry door and it stays closed even when my cat is trying to open it to help herself to food. The plastic housing is sturdy enough to deal with the metal screws...just don't over-tighten! January 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good catch Good catches for cupboard doors. Even held my slightly warped door closed. The only negative was if you tighten the screws too much they stretch the opening enough for the screw to pop through the back. December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Strong magnet catch I needed these for a woodworking project and they are excellent. The magnets are so strong that I had to move them away from the plate -- my doors were pretty small. These worked great for me May 17, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Rare Earth Magnets do a much better job. These catches are more light to medium duty. I would have to use 4 of this type magnet to accomplish the job they were used for. They lack the holding power for the weight they are specified to handle. I only recommend this product for light to medium applications. January 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by did job well on antique door and woodwork Due to age of door, would not keep shut, with the help of the magnetic catch, door remains closed. January 24, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by i ordered heavy duty i already had light duty that was stronger than you heavy duty i guess this is a good product. i just happened to have a set of light duty that was stronger. February 22, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by heavy duty magnetic magnet needs to stronger to hold well, had to put 2 on one door to stay close January 29, 2012
