Can Tie-downs be installed during construction?

We live in Florida, where winds can be extreme. I see that this shed withstands 65 mph winds, but I am unclear as to what that really means. Does it come apart in higher winds or does it fly away? Would tie downs increase its durability to wind?

Answer (1)

October 17, 2016
Answer:
The wind rating of 65 mph is rated when the shed is anchored to the foundation. The only way to raise the wind rating would be to install an extreme weather kit. Unfortunately we do not offer an extreme weather kit for our garden style sheds.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 94 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Shed! Straight up ....12 hours to install. Directions were awful, just like others said...Everything has a number on the part itself but when you do the install guide page by page it goes to letters so there is back and forth trying to find out what they are talking about. Some directions are a bit vague. After you assemble all the trellises, doors and skylights, (about 3 hours) make sure you have enough daylight left, once you start putting up the walls you can't stop until you have the roof attached to some of the trellises to hold the walls more securely in place..they were to unstable (we thought) to let sit overnight in case of a storm blowing through, it would have collapsed the whole thing with one big wind gust. Once you start getting things in place it all falls together nicely. Comes in 3 HUGE boxes heavier than I ever thought it would be especially when you try to get them up steps with a hill (Kudos Home Depot). We made "stations" for parts and it seemed to help with staying organized. Do everything it tells you no matter how much you want to do something different (trellis..screw head IN the tracks)..everything has a reason and purpose even though it’s not clear until 5 pages later. I can say the worst part was the last thing we did and that was installing the shutters!! really...none of them lined up with the shed so we winged it! All and all it was a fun project even in the rain but I would not want to put another one together anytime soon! August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Good shed, installation is a little rough. Looks good completed October 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great shed for a great price My wife and I love this shed. Caution that it takes a long time to install yourself. It looks great and directions were fine to follow with one exception. The front door requires one floor peice to be flipped around for the right door post to line up right. Not so clear in instructions. We had shipping issues with the company home depot used by Pittsburgh. After they rescheduled delivery 3 times Home Depot worked with me so that I just went to shipper to pick it up myself. I would recommend this shed very high quality with lots of room. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Shed Difficult to put together even with 3 of us. A lot of screws to install but, that's what keeps everything together. Took 3 days working a Few hours a day. Had problems with door installation and had to partially disassemble roof to fix. Doors still don't stay closed, pops open if padlock not used. Now that it's done it looks terrific and I'm getting rave reviews from friends. I do think it is pricey, especially the extension kits. Construction was during major heat wave and one of my friends assisting was taken to hospital via ambulance after passing out due to heat exhaustion. September 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great shed Went on a concrete slab. Almost perfect just wish hardware was better separated and labeled September 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good shed, but not great First really big issue is the instructions are completely worthless. I am a certified aircraft tech of more than 20 years, and I truly struggled with understanding the instructions. I would advise anyone planning on building this shed, to read the instructions thoroughly and more than once. The first step listed is the step that should be the last. More pics of how the assemblies look after being assembled would be most helpful. I had 2 very mechanically skilled people assist me, and it took 3 of us roughly 7 hours with all the preassembly work included. The quality of the shed is good, and I do recommend this product. However, while Lifetime obviously spend lots of time developing the roof support structure, the walls were pretty much ignored. Only 5 screws hold each wall panel together. And the walls are NOT attached to the roof or reinforced in any manner. The snow load concern from Lifetime, seems to be aimed at the walls buckling under the snows weight and not the roofs panels collapsing. I will find out this winter how it holds up. And after complete assembly, the roof is nice and solid, while the walls just flop around if bumped. I will definitely be doing some wall reinforcing with some steel straps or "c" beams. But for dollar to dollar value, I do recommend this shed. I got it on sale for 1685, and the equivalent wood shed would have been over 2500. Add to that having to frequently repaint or treat the wood siding and doors. vinyl is the way to go. Even if I spend some $ on reinforcing the walls, it is still cheaper than a 14x8 wood shed. Thanks to Lifetime for a timely delivery, and the shed does look great. I will wait and see how it weathers the mid atlantic seasons. WIlliam H. August 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love, LoVe, LOVE MY SHED It took a team to assemble, but the end result is fabulous. I added solar lights to both doorways to give it a custom look. Receive compliments on a daily basis August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by shed if I had it to do over I would had some one else to do all the work August 23, 2016
