Questions & Answers

when delivered curbside can one person handle unloading it?,,how much do the boxes weight?

Asked by: mike
I picked up the shed at my local Home Depot, 2 guys helped me get the three boxes on the back of my pick up truck. When I got it home, I used my lawn tractor and a utility trailer hooked to the back of it. I slid each of the three boxes, one at a time, from the back of my truck on to the trailer and drove them to where I wanted them.

Can one person install the shed?

Asked by: paul
Home Depot does not have any service that will come out and install it for you. You will have to just do the best you can by yourself and with some other help. It can be done in one day if you have two others helping and if you start early enough.

Buy the model that has the doors on the end, it's cheaper too.

15 ft. x 8 ft. Outdoor Garden Shed is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 268.

After reading numerous reviews, I was a bit concerned about assembling this shed. There were many comments about screw holes not lining up, screw holes stripping, too many pieces, hundreds of screws, etc. After buying and assembling this shed in less than two days, with some assist from my wife where two people are needed, I have to say a few things: 1) This is a GREAT shed. The metal trusses for roof support add a lot of stability and structural support. The instructions were quite good but you need to really pay attention, make sure you understand what they are directing you to do and most of all FOLLOW ALL STEPS IN ORDER, EXACTLY AS WRITTEN. Any problems I encountered with my assembly were a result of me not reading and following the instructions closely enough. 2) It's imperative that you NOT use any kind of power tool to drive the screws for assembly. True, there are probably between 300 - 400 screws but plastic is a finicky material to put together with steel screws. It takes a delicate touch that you can't achieve with a power tool. Get a ratcheting screw driver and don't try to tighten the screws more than firmly snug or they will strip. That's just the nature of these materials. 3) There are a lot of pieces but the Lifetime engineers have designed the shed to be put together by anyone with basic knowledge of hand tools and the ability to follow instructions. The hundreds of screws, when all installed correctly, make a very stable and strong structure that should hold up under any but the worst weather conditions. 4) When the instructions say that the platform you put the shed on needs to be level and flat, they mean exactly that. If the platform isn't nearly dead flat you will run into the problem of screw holes not lining up which will only get worse the further you advance in construction. I'd gladly buy another Lifetime product mainly for the quality of materials, ease of construction and appearance.

Prior to the shed being delivered to my house I downloaded the digital copy of the owner's manual to my iPad from the Lifetime website. I used the digital copy during the installation (you are able to zoom in close on the pictures). I highly recommend reviewing the instructions prior to receiving the shed as it gives you an idea of the tedious task ahead of you. If I remember correctly, the manual is around 92 pages and has a lot of pictures that can be confusing if you don't take your time and pay attention. I took the paper copy that came in the box and put it in a 3-ring binder with tabs (my wife's copy - the tabs were a huge help). The shed came in 3 large boxes on a very large crate. The owner's manual and installation instructions are in box # 2. Be prepared to get frustrated finding various parts as they are scattered among the 3 boxes. I am lucky that I already had a 20' by 10' concrete pad to place the shed on. If you don't have the base ready to go you might want to build/install that prior to ordering the shed (make sure it's level). If your base is not level you will have issues with everything from the roof to the walls fitting together correctly. I would plan on setting aside at a minimum a day or two to properly put this thing together. Just as a heads up, pretty much none of the parts with the exception of the back right and left corners are marked. By the time you separate all the parts and properly identify them you will have easily killed an hour if not more. The only thing labeled properly is the hardware which is in bags specifically labeled for each specific installation step. The lack of parts labeling is why I dinged this product 1 star. You literally have to look at pictures in the instruction manual and visually identify what is what. I used pieces of masking tape to mark the parts prior to assembly to make things a little easier. Labeling the parts is a step Lifetime could do that would be a HUGE help to the customer. If you use a drill for the install make sure you use a very low torque setting - If you are not careful you will definitely strip the screws. I don't suggest using a manual screwdriver as there are probably close to 500 screws (I'm not exaggerating). As far as the actual installation, the corners and roof parts were the biggest pain. I recommend building the gables, trusses, and doors in your garage (if you have one) prior to doing anything else. NOTE: Pay special attention to the floor when you lay it down. The instructions tell you to face "the side with the holes" towards the front of the shed. Well, there are a couple of floor pieces that have holes on both sides. If you screw up the layout of the floor you will find yourself taking the shed apart to fix the floor (otherwise your doors will not fit). Once I finished building the shed I bought some insulating foam weatherstrip and placed it on the top edges of the doors to help seal out any heavy rain. I also siliconed the bottom edge of all the walls on the inside to prevent any unwanted insects. Lastly, I purchased some additional watertight screw/washers and tightened up the roof panels. I found a few placed where you can definitely use some extra hardware to support the roof. We have had three heavy storms since building the shed and each time I found zero evidence of any leaks. The finished product is very nice and should last for years. I highly recommend you TAKE YOUR TIME when putting this thing together and read the instructions thoroughly. If you rush it you will totally jack up the installation and have to disassemble and fix. It's a lot of work and I promise you it will be really frustrating at times. However, the end product is totally worth it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shed We bought this shed, and so far it has been fantastic! As others say, it has a lot of parts and screws, but this is what keeps it all together. I've built things for years, and understand the engineering that must have taken place to design this shed. Way to go, is all I can say.

I like it! As far as building this yourself? Well that's another story. The price you pay for it is not all you have to spend. It does say that it comes with all the parts you need but that is not necessarily true. You will have all the parts to the shed but you will not have all the screws and tools necessary unless you already have them. Of course you should typically have a hammer, screw driver and a drill. However, you will also need in addition to the basics, grounding screws, two kinds of drill bits, a rubber mallet and two wrenches of a different size which the instructions do tell you but you don't know that until after you open the box to read the paper. It tells you also that you will need to place this on one of two surfaces, cement or a wood platform. I did mine on wood so that means I had to additionally purchase wood to meet the length and width of the shed. If you do it on cement that is even more money you have to sped because that would require a hammer drill as well as the cement if you don't have it already to anchor it to it. Home Depot will gladly cut the wood for you per the specifications in the instructions but you will have to find a way to get wood to your destination. You will need a big enough truck or have to rent one of theirs for $20. After you build the platform first you will have to make sure you have the anchoring screws along with it which it tells you you will need at the end of the instructions. So read through till the end to make sure you have all you need to avoid multiple trips. After the platform is built the only thing that gets in your way are the instructions which at times are not that clear. You have to pay close attention to the images, the sizes of the parts, as well as the words written. They do at some parts have a video link to help out further, which I thought was pretty cool and a little bit helpful. I did a lot by myself but you can get this done in one day with 2 other able bodies. I wish they had placed some kind of metal washer or filler in the screw holes to add more sturdiness to it to make some of the screws feel more secure. Some will not screw as tight as you want. I counted maybe a hand full of screws that were still able to turn after "tightening". All of the tightening minus the anchoring can be done by hand. The instructions even tell you to use a low torqued drill. Other than that I am please with it and am now just waiting for the final test which is heavy rain to see if it leaks anywhere. I recommend the purchase of this shed. PS. You have to make your own holes for the shutters so I just left them off. They are only for style anyway.

Had to drag off the truck and drag to the back yard... 1 box had to be opened and moved in pieces due to the weight. This was done with delivery driver and myself. Overall quality and assembly was good and 98% done single handed. Screw sets in the plastic panels need to be thicker and re-enforced so screws don't strip. If I did it again I would leave wall fasteners slightly loose till all the roof sections were on and secured then go back and final tighten the screws. A good foundation is important too. I built a 2x6 with 2x4 pressure treated on a pier block foundation covered in plywood... Had it now for a few weeks and the first hard wind and rain left it water tight and looking great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with the purchase Great experience overall - with a team of four people and motto "divide and conquer" - two people were going with the manual and assembling the elements together, while the other two started the flooring on a concrete pad, and was adding the walls. It took us 6-7 hours on a weekend day, plus lunch break. The shed is strong and spacious, has plenty of room for shelves and other organizers, and it looks really pretty. The windows can be opened but also have safety locks and can be closed. The construction allows for air flow so it is not too hot inside. Neutral colors are definitely a plus. Will buy it again for my next house :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good purchase. This was all around a great experience. I purchased the 15'/8' shed and added two 30" ext. for a 20'8' total shed. The shed with the added ext. was very easy to construct / put together. I completed the task in two days by myself. As seen in the photo I was pleased that the ext's could be placed on one side or one on each side of the doors. I was also pleased that the window panels could be located at the ends if necessary. Very well constructed. The key as all have stated is a level platform or surface.
