Critters Getting In

There is a raccoon who likes to dig in my trash and I assume he will like my compost too! Is it possible to lock it so a raccoon cannot get in?
Asked by: Nikki
This tumbler has a lock, and sets up off the ground, unless a hole were chewed in it, not even a mouse could get in.

Customer Reviews

50 Gal. Compost Tumbler is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Neat Device A tad hard to put together. But nice size to sit out by back porch. Tumbling feature is great. Leaked at first but no longer. Easy to toss stuff in and just rotate and lock to shovel stuff out. I used a bag of compost starter. Delivered to my door no charge!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compost Tumbler I bought this last season for all my composting. Its easy to turn, but it does take a while for the composting to you need lost of sunshine for heat. But over all very happy with product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Composter My husband put this together with no problem. We are still in the process of making compost which is a slower process this time of year. I find it easy to rotate, not difficult at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Prooduct This compost tumbler appears to be well made. The instructions are well written, clear, and concise. With that being said, the assembly steps are very critical, so be sure to pay close attention! I ended up doing a little reverse assembly when I had the tumbler flipped the wrong way. Assembly took about 1 1/2 hours, and I consider myself very handy with tools. I've been using this tumbler for about 3 weeks now, and it's making compost! I doubt you would regret this purchase, and recommend you buy it if your still on the fence. You'll need several sized wrenches and sockets to make assembly go easier.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective Identical to the 2/5/15 poster, I also found the tumbler locking mechanism, which is based on a peg, isn't long enough to lock in place properly. But there is no way to "tweak" it short of inserting some other hardware. Called customer service and e-mailed TWICE. They demanded pictures of the problem, TWICE. Have had no reply since. Shameful and ridiculous such poor service. This is a well documented defect. Why give the customer a hard time, especially after they spent a length of time putting the darn thing together.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product with cruddy instructions The compost tumbler is great, but the other reviews mentioning difficulty with assembly are true. I read them and though, whatever I am sure it can't be that hard. There are no words in the instructions, so you have to pay attention to all the little details in the pictures. There are several steps where if you aren't paying attention to the way the parts are rotated, you could get yourself in trouble. With that said, once together it is great, works well, easy to open one handed and was a great value. I will likely buy another next christmas for my in-laws.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Tumbling I read all of the reviews before purchasing this tumbler and my main concern was the difficulty to put together. However, I put together the entire compost tumbler (minus the drills into the metal on the legs) by myself, and I'm female, if that makes any difference. The directions were easy to follow, and everything, except drilling screws into metal was easy. As for the ease of use? Well, you just open it up, lock the lid, and then tumble a couple of times, and tada! I really like how compact this tumbler is. It doesn't look weird in our backyard, and it is at the right height to empty into a wheelbarrow (I researched that aspect on a lot of other composters before purchasing this one). This is definitely the composter I would recommend to my friends, and I have!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality materials Shipped quickly. Well packed. Clear instructions but it's a bit awkward to assemble. There is a pin that holds the drum in place that is too short for the job. We improvised with an old screwdriver. Overall I'm pleased with the function and quality. The materials are very strong. It looks fine in the yard and is easy to move if needed.
