I used a cheap soil test kit that I bought on the major online retailer and found out that my ornamental garden was completely lacking nitrogen and phosphorous. This was in agreement with very slow growth of everything in the garden except nitrogen-fixing plants.
So I did some calculations, chose four bags of this stuff, and spread it all around. Since then, the plants are growing much better than in years past, and I changed nothing else. (For context, this is a shady garden in Seattle with lots of mature conifers.)

I scattered some of this bone meal around the delphiniums along our front fence. They had never sent bloom spikes over 3 feet tall until this year - they reached over 7 feet tall all along the fence!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ElCaudillo Northwest gardens need Phosphorus - Bone meal provides it!
We've used this product in our vegetable garden now for 3 years and are extremely happy with it. It spreads easily and provides both phosphorus and nitrogen. I spread some over any location that gets tilled to make sure that I've got phosphorus down deep in the root zones.
