54 oz. Moss Out for Roofs and Structures

Frequently Bought Together

Product Overview

For best results, apply Moss Out. For roofs and structures just prior to the time when fall rains begin or in early spring. Moss growth can occur in nearly any location where dampness persists. Such areas include roofs, decks, steps, patios, walks, fence posts, and foundations. Since moisture is essential, most moss growth appears during the fall, some in the winter and in the spring. Very little moss forms in summertime. Destroying existing moss is done most effectively during times when its growth is most rapid and when rain is not expected for several days. Controlling moss may add months, or years, of service to roofs, patios and such areas.

  • Kills moss and algae
  • Won't stain bricks, concrete, or asphalt
  • Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft.
  • Prolongs the life of roofs, decks, patios and walks

Answer:
There is a 27 OZ sprayer-bottle that you buy first (HD carries them) and THEN refill it with this cheaper 54 OZ bottle. The sprayer connects to a garden hose and mixes the product like an Ortho garden sprayer, only much more concentrated. I probably burned through that first bottle - and 500 square feet of roof - in about 10 or 12 minutes.

Answer:
Hello Dorothy,
You will mix the Moss Out for Roofs and Structures with water. The label lists specific dilution and application rates but you are generally looking at mixing 5 1/3 ounces of the Moss Out Roofs and Structures Concentrate in a gallon of water. One gallon of the mixture will treat 100 square feet.
Thank you

Doss Moss Out work on built-up asphalt type roofs? Are there any types of roofs for which this product is NOT to be used?

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by CORRECTION to my previous review... I made an error in my earlier review when I recommended against using other hose-end garden sprayers. I discovered this when I went to spray 2 more roof sections and the Moss Out sprayer died on the third use... It was late in the day and I wanted to avoid a trip across town, as well as spending another $16, so I dug out an old Ortho/Hayes metal hose-end sprayer and poured the remaining Moss Out into it. Turns out that it sucked up the chemical just about as fast as the dead plastic Moss Out sprayer AND left the telltale white foam when it hit the shingles. Obviously it's hard to find good metal sprayers today, but I had to correct my previous misdirection and instead recommend that anyone who already owns a functional hose-end sprayer try buying the 54-ounce refill first; you may be able to skip the overpriced 27-ounce sprayer entirely... Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works fine for me... I didn't monitor it by the day or week, but it definitely worked here in NW Oregon. I applied it to the roof on the side of the house that had green moss growing along the vertical edges at the bottom of each row of composite shingles in November or December. Spraying up from the deck I could reach a little over 3/4 of the roof, leaving a circular arc at the end of the treated area. Now in March, I looked at it and that dividing arc is very pronounced; the moss to the left is dull gray and hasn't grown while the untreated area to the right is nice & green and is almost twice as large as before! I wish it was a bit cheaper, but now that I have the sprayer bottle I'm going to buy the refill that has 100% more product for only 30% more money. (Don't try to skimp on the sprayer with an Ortho garden sprayer or some such - this mixes a much higher ratio than the Ortho.) March 21, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't Make A Difference We bought this product after buying a gallon of bleach to rid our roof of the ugly and damaging moss. We thought we would try this first thinking that it was called MOSS OUT it should be the best thing you could use to remove moss, right? Wrong! I took the time to carefully read the directions, mix it properly, then spend the better part of 6 hours spraying down our roof. The bottle says "See results in HOURS!" We didn't even see results in weeks...what a waste of $40 and a good chunk of my day off. The moss on our roof isn't even that bad compared to others in the area and this made not even a little difference. In the end Home Depot did refund our money but stick to bleach! It's far cheaper and works the very first time. November 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product I bought this product to kill the moss on our roof. After spending countless hours pressure washing the moss off of the roof,I questioned myself as to there being an easier way.I went to home depot and purchased this product, used it and it sure made moss removal a whole bunch easier.
