Can a arc welder be used for these brazing rods?

Lincon 225 arc
Asked by: Moe
Yes you can, but not as you would stick welding. You can get a carbon rod torch and power it with your welder to get the heat source necessary to melt the brass to create a braze joint. In any case (carbon arc or acetylene flame) you will need extra flux to complete the joint. I find Boraxo washing detergent to work quite well as a inexpensive and easy to obtain brazing flux.

Heating source and flux questions

I'm welding repairs to an aluminum boat Should I use Oxy/acetylene rig or will acetylene alone heat it? and It says "self fluxing". Should I get aluminium welding flux or will this work without it?
Asked by: Robert
You can MIG weld aluminum with a spool gun, you can also TIG weld aluminum. You cannot weld aluminum with self flux-core wire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good price for this product. I don't do very much brazing, so this package of rods was just right for me. I checked other stores and found them to be higher in price. The rods performed just fine and I ended up with a nice weld. If I need more brazing rod I will be back to Home Depot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Flux coated brazing rods Online description is erroneous. Rods are 12" long, package is 15" long. Package says rods are commonly used for GAS welding, online implies they are for electric welding. I have never heard of brazing with an arc welder!
