Answer:
I would imagine that may be a factor in some professional code welding, but not for home or shop use. This wire will handle whatever thickness your machine can weld.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lincoln L 56 welding wire The Lincoln L-56 solid wire is one of the best choices there is for welding clean to lightly rusted mild steel. The wire is very consistent in diameter, so once your machine is set up you should not have any issues with feeding. Remember it is different than a flux core wire in that you need to change the polarity of your machine to electrode negative. Solid wire also requires a shielding gas, usually an argon co2 mix but 100% co2 will work also. The L-56 wire is a great choice when it comes to ER70S-6 filler metals. April 14, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Smooth Lincoln quality I have been using this wire on the larger 12.5 lb spool on my Hobart Handler 210 and I use it in a commercial environment. I have found that this mig wire is as usual, high quality from Lincoln. Welds nice and smooth with very little splatter and bb's. I highly recommend this mig wire. April 30, 2014
