The Lincoln 7018AC 1/8 in. Stick Electrode 5 lb. is ideal for joining most hard-to-weld steels. This mild-steel, low-hydrogen electrode has a powdered-iron coating and can be used in steel structures, field erection, plants and rigs. Compatible with high-sulfur steels, low-alloy steels that can harden, high-tensile steels, medium and high carbon steels, cold-rolled steels and free-machining steels.

  • General-purpose contact-type electrode
  • Low open circuit voltage operation with limited spatter
  • Helps eliminate the problems of cold restriking
  • Welds in all positions except vertical down

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Weld great! Picked up these bad boys today. Welding 1/4" steel. On Dc + polarity. Awesome welds. Using Miller thunderbolt Ac/Dc. January 28, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good for beginners These electrodes are good for beginners. I just started welding, and they light up easily. The 7018 rods are supposed to be dragged along the work piece from what I'm told, and they seem to produce good results even for a beginner. In the hands of a pro they could do even better, obviously. Restarting a half-way burnt rod is difficult, because slag forms on the tip. But this is to be expected with this 7018 formulation regardless of what brand you buy, so it's just the nature of the 7018 beast. You can aliviate this by simply filing that slag off the tip. These are manufactured outside the USA as are many things now in the Lincoln line of products. Professionals might prefer something better perhaps a more premium version, but for me it's just fine for hobby work and practice. These are supposed to be stored in a rod oven, but a lot a guys just store them "wet." Again, professionals doing "code" level work are going to be concerned about doing this properly. July 8, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by not good Box not sealed very good. The rods pin holed real bad would not weld any thing that you didn't want to leak. March 19, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent LoHy rod This rod is excellent. It's perfect for AC "buzz box" type SMAW (stick) welders. It's important to buy a SEALED brand new box! If the box seal appears open however slight, don't buy it! Inform the store manager that an open box or unsealed box of 7018 makes that specific electrode "bad" within hours of open air exposure, unless the electrodes are resealed in an air tight container. 7018 needs to remain totally dry while in storage. I use this 7018AC rod on both AC and DC+ settings. If you're getting porosity it's because 1) your rod became moist due to improper storage; 2) your surface metal was not 100% "shiny" clean; 3) you didn't keep a short enough arc length. 7018 is "almost" (not quite) considered a "drag" rod. It always needs to be welded on shiny bare clean steel!!! A great rod if one knows how to use it. It's very easy to use in the flat position, once you've practiced a bit with it. Make sure you have the welder set "hot" enough with this particular electrode. This needs to run hotter than regular old 6011 1/8" rod. A minimum of 135 AC amps (if you only have an AC welder) is necessary for 1/8" sized electrode, if you want to to perform optimally. 125 on DC might work okay too, but many buzz boxes don't have higher settings on DC mode. Enjoy this fabulous rod from Lincoln. December 20, 2012
