will this work on a 125..lincoln

Asked by: beuce
YES it does work on the SP 125 machine. Oxarc makes a kit so that it fits. My machine is a SP 125 plus and it did not have the plug-in and switch to make this spool gun work. I spent about 30 minutes installing the Oxarc kit and it works GREAT. That kit costs 49.95 The SP 125 has plenty of amperage and I have welded thin material and also 1/8" plate. When I weld the 1/8" plate, the heat and wire speed settings were in the middle of the range on the 125 plus machine. I had no problems at all welding with this 100SG spool gun. Apparently the others that said it would not work did not know about the kit by Oxarc.

Can I run 75/25 argon/c02 with this or do I have to buy another gas bottle?

Asked by: laughingjohn1
You can run whatever you want but if you want it to work get a different machine like tig and always use 100% argon for aluminum.

This is a product designed to make you realize that welding aluminum isn't easy. For all the people who said "it works great" and the one dude who wants to use it for bikes??? Come on! Bad idea! People use aluminum because it's light and strong; so don't put your safety on the line by splattering it with this gun on a piece that needs to be strong. I had one, hooked it all up (yes you need to take your machine apart (mine being the 180) spent $250 on an argon tank, and tried for hours to make it work. It will blast through light material (not in a good way) and ruin whatever you were hoping to build or "fix" plus will not get hot enough to do heavier 1/4". I even put pieces in the oven to preheat it and still a bad idea. Makes me wonder why all the 4 and 5 stars? Either they are magical or really dumb :)

This spool gun is adequate for light welding of aluminum. I had a little bit of trouble with the wire feed, but that was more "operator error" than a problem with the tool. You must use 100% Argon when welding aluminum.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor product, not worth the plastic it was made from. Yes, this is a bad review. I have been welding for over 15 years producing industrial products, metal sculptures and general farm maintenance. In short, I can weld. This spool gun, however, cannot. I tried for several days to get this thing to work. All I could do was make it spit out what looked like piles of bird droppings. I played with the heat, with the wire speed, gas pressure. Cleaned and prepped all weld surfaces. And nothing but bird droppings. This thing will not run beads. It will not do spot welds. The motor sounds like it is constantly on the verge of dying. It is slow to start, and is just plain awkward to hold. If you think you can do better, you can try, but you'll wish you had just returned it. My whole setup, welder, spool gun, consumables and tank of gas cost me in the neighborhood of $1000. A good TIG welder is only $2,000 from Miller. Go with that. Save your nickles and buy the good tool. Pass on this one. If I could return it all, I'd do it in a heart beat, but I am past the time frame, and well it's used now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lincoln spool gun Great addition to my Lincoln 140HD easy to get started only draw back which isn't much worth mentioning is when I switch from the mig torch to the spool gun it wastes wire so make sure you organize your project as to minimize this
