This welder is ready to go out of the box (I would recommend a helmet and a pair of good gloves) and no this welder does not require shielding gas it is flux cored (flux core produces it's own shielding gas) all you have to do is put the spool of wire in, feed wire through gun, turn it on and weld...

It does not require gas to function although it comes with everything you need should you decide to use gas. It's pretty much ready to go out of the box once you install the roll of wire. Great little welder. I think you'll be pleased.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 60 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fathers Day gift My wonderful wife got me one of these for Fathers Day. I got it home, set it up and started welding. It was that easy. I've been a Heavy Equipment mechanic for the last 30 years. I've done a little welding. It didn't take any time at all to figure this thing out. It actually has 4 heat range settings but rather than 4 settings on a dial like the Weld Pak 125, 140 and 160, this thing makes do with a pair of rocker switches. Not that it's a bad thing, the bigger models only have 4 settings also. The hand held welding shield that is included is cheap but it works quite well. I have a welding helmet I use with my arc/TIG welder and I honestly didn't feel like I needed to pull it on. Within 5 minutes of setting up, I fixed a rack for my wife and started construction of a welding cart for the Weld Pak. It worked great for these small projects but I wouldn't hesitate to use it for larger ones. For the money, it's a reasonably good product and I don't feel like I need more performance for anything I'm going to do around the home. I experienced none of the issues other reviewers wrote about. Wire feed is smooth and the feed motor is not noisier than any other MIG or wire feed welder I've ever used. I've used Lincoln's on the job for years and really, nothing about this one screams cheap or substandard. June 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Be Careful, this is a very low quality welder I owned this welder 2 months and am returning it today. Let me try and help you from my buying experience. For starters this is a "Lincoln Branded" welder made in Poland. Its completely awful for gauge steel and body work. There is no upgrade available for shielding gas. A common problem mine included is the inconsistent or surging wire spool motor, if sounds like the motor wants to die and then speeds up. I checked and tried every adjustment they are just poor quality spool motors. If you would like more honest reviews of this welder check here on home depots site for a Lincoln Century welder, its the same welder just different name. I had a hard time finding exactly which Lincoln HD welder this was but relied on good reviews, what a mistake. A lot of these reviews don't belong here and mention several different models. This welder is no better than an $80 welder you get with a coupon. Spent a little more buy a better welder, I bought the Lincoln 140 after returning this and love it. Keep in mind the Lincoln 125 home depot stocks don't include the gas hook ups to upgrade it to gas will cost $189.00, for me the 140 seemed a better choice May 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by What a joke I didn't mind the jerky- surging of the wire at 1st. I was able to "adjust by following the speed settings" but why make an " adjustable wire speed welder" if ALL GUAGES OF STEEL ARE TO BE SET ON 9!!! It's going BACK on Monday! My friend has an old weld pak 100 and it's GREAT of coarse they don't make them anymore! February 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ceiling Hunter Outdoor Fan Have purchased Fans before and they are great. Long lasting and quite, great style. easy to install January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great little machine, lasted 7 years I use this machine for small production welding running a few hours a day, 2-3 days a week, this unit lasted 7 years before the feed system spazzed and I had to get a new one. I've welded up to 1/2 inch plates without an issue, great for quick 10-16 gauge steel. December 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Product works Great First I would like to say thank you to the people at the Home Depot in Brunswick GA. They were great in helping me with a big problem. Traveling from NJ to Florida with out 5th Wheel travel trailer I noticed that the Chassis on the trailer was cracked and the spring perch was about to come off. Montana Trailer by Keystone, beware before you buy one, not good, long story. It was 8:30 at night in Georgia on Friday. Tried to find a local welder, no good. Called Home Depot and they had the Lincoln Welder. I am an experienced welder, mechanic etc. It was 115 volts so I purchased it along with angle iron, flat stock and a hacksaw. It was a complete kit, my biggest concern was it was going to blow the circuit breaker at the campsite. I made the necessary repairs and I must say the unit worked great! no problem with blowing the breakers and it welded the frame and other steel very well. I was able to make it to Disney and while I was there I did some further welding, again working great. Very nice unit high quality for general repairs. Again thanks to the people at Home Depot for the great Customer Service November 3, 2015

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pleased My first use of this type of welder and actually any type. I needed to add 2 inches onto 1 inch square pieces of my column posts. Worked good although nothing to brag about in appearance. July 21, 2015
