The unit sets itself up all you have to do is answer the already prepared questions during the setup process.

I bought this router and it doesn't work more than 20 feet away. The signal hardly goes through my walls which are drywall. It has been a great disappointment.

I have always been a brand loyal person because of the reliability of a Linksys router. I bought this unit a couple of years ago because the last one was out of date but still worked great. After 3 years with this one it is now losing connectivity with everything including the internet. I connect my laptop straight to it and can't even get into the router itself. It would usually let me in after I unplugged it for a couple of hours but as of two days ago it won't even do that. Reset button doesn't work either. Finally got online through the cable modem to do some research and it was suggested that I place it in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Low and behold it worked....until this morning. Again nothing is connected to it and I can't get into the router to do a firmware update. Grrrr. Back to finding a new router.

I bought an EA6500 router and had problems identical to the "I agree with Rebekah" review.
I contacted Linksys support and I had to pay the shipping charge to receive a replacement unit (+$12 to the original cost).
The replacement router is as bad as the original. Also, when I received the replacement, I found the firmware was diminished in that you could no longer hide the network name (SSID) from anyone within range. I know hiding the SSID is not the ultimate in security, but novice hackers will likely not go snooping around a network they can't find. Also, removing the ability to hide the SSID did not solve any problem with this router. It seems like a bandaid solution to a deeper issue.
The signal continues to weaken the longer the unit is on to the point where no device stays connected on the 2.4GHz band and the signal strength on a non-moving desktop PC within 25 feet of the unit varies throughout the day until it finally fails as well. The unit needs to be reset multiple times daily.
I plugged in my old wireless N router (from another manufacturer) and everything works great. Signal strength is awesome through the entire house with the trusty old router. I don't get the 1.3Gbps speed on my internal network with the old router, though I'll take a 300Mbps connection on an old router that functions reliably over an unreliable, inconsistent connection on a faster router any day of the week.

I bought this August 2015. It works great. The only thing is not good is that it is quite hot compare to my previous EA3500. Maybe that is the reason it failed month ago. However, the support team is great and after all the efforts fixing problem. They concluded that the device is defective and now I got a replacement and it works great again.

The ea6500 isnt any better than the ea6300 i had, the parental controls for specific time do not work still!! Im back to my old ea3500 which so far is still the best!!

I have the same issues with mine. When it runs, it runs well on the 5GHz band. I was getting 1.3 Gbps with my AC1750 wireless network card in my desktop. Although, even after one of many router resets, I could watch the signal strength diminish over time with this router until there was no connectivity available at all on the 5GHz. At any rate, I would lose the 5GHz band at least once per day (not counting when I had to reset it for the signal loss on the 2.4GHz band).
On the 2.4GHz band, the signal was even more sporadic. The signal strength would diminish and drop altogether many times a day.
At first, I thought there might be some form of interference messing with this router. To test this, I swapped this router out with my old low-cost wireless-N router (also operating on the 2.4 and 5GHz bands) and the N-router works without issue. As a matter of fact, I've been running for 2 months with my N-router and have not had to reset it once. I have about twenty years of experience running routers in a home and professional environment and haven't seen anything like this issue in any wireless device so I hope a firmware fix can take care of it.
For now, I have to say it's the most unreliable wireless device I've personally used to date. The lack of reliability is entirely the reason for my one-star review.
I'm keeping it hoping a firmware update will fix the connection drops. I trust that Linksys will make this right.

We got this about three weeks ago and we're very happy with it. Especially as we also have a "guest" option for people to log into. The only difficulty we had was setting it up on a Mac; it wasn't plug and play, and we had to reset and do it a second time. You can only access settings online, and if you can't get online, it makes it difficult.
