I had a one-year old 32'x16' cedar deck that needed its first staining (I let it age for a year) and was researching the best way to stain it. The general internet consensus was that regardless of the application method, such as spraying, I would still need to brush in the stain so I started to look at brushes and found this one at HD, great price and held up well to the double coat that I put on the deck and the brush is still in great condition.
I did dip it directly into the 1 gallon stain can and it was a tight fit that flared out some of the side bristles but this could have been easily avoided if I wasn't so lazy and poured the stain into a larger container.
I also purchased a very inexpensive 2'-5' adjustable painter's extension pole that screwed into the brush handle so I could paint standing up instead down on my knees and that was worth its weight in gold

This Back-Brush is the secret to an outstanding deck staining project. To be honest, it would be impossible to stain a deck properly without this tool. The pole screws right into the handle, no more lost handles by having to take the handle off before screwing the pole in. Most retail stores don't have a back-brush and those that do have the wrong type, the wrong size or the wrong price. This is probably the biggest reason, other than the great team at the Stanleyville store, that I keep coming back to Home Depot. I probably purchase 6 to 10 a month. I wish you had it in contractor's bundles? Thanks.

Brush was a good size for staining deck. Brush construction is poor. Bristles began to come out immediately. Afterwards, I attempted to clean the brush and the bristles came out in clumps and then fell completely out of the ferrule. Straight to the garbage.

This brush is good for staining decks but the bristle gets pretty eaten up after a few hours of use. To be fair, my deck is about 900 sq ft. We purchased 2 brushes and both experienced the same problem. Both of the brush bristles started getting eaten up fast but the biggest issue I have with these brushes are the housings.
Initially, the bristles were wearing out but then the housing started separating from the handle. The problem is the nail that holds the housing was falling out making this brush a one or two time use item.
For the money, it is more expensive than a regular brush but you can re use the other brushes more than one or two times.
The quality could be better but then again, in this throw away society, nothing is made to last.

What I love about this brush is it can be attached to an extension pole so you can stain the deck boards getting the edges and cutting into the house without being on your knees. It gives you very good control and applies an ample amount of stain right where you want it can also be used to do the flats and top of the railings. I also use this brush in conjunction with Airless spray system to brush the stain into textured clapboard siding it works very well.

This brush delivers a smooth finish over my metal hand rails. The brush hairs were smooth and held the paint well.

This is a well made brush that I used for masonry work. It holds up to rough work. This is a big 5" wide brush so it is good for big jobs not finish work.

Overall, I thought this was a pretty decent brush. The stain went on well and formed a nice smooth coat. One issue I had though was during the first few boards, the brush seemed to lose a fair number of bristles on the wood which had to be picked up. It seemed to get better after that though.
