I've had the same issue as most everyone else providing reviews on this light, - light works fine for a while but as some point will begin to turn off and on throughout the night AND can be shut off by things like the garage door opening or closing. Most of the time, it is the bulb that needs replacing that will fix this issue. MH bulbs are not like regular bulbs, they don't just shut off when they're burned out. They begin this on/off thing and eventually will burn completely out, but the ignitor is still trying to start the bulb. Eventually the ignitor will burn out (at least this one will, it's not good quality) and could even flip your breaker switch off . If people knew right away to replace the bulb when this first begins, could prevent alot of heartache and frustration. The bulb supplied by the manufacturer is not great quality either and will not last long (2 mo to 18 mo).
Mine did all of this and I followed the suggestions/ideas from brotherjrjohnson and jpit. Ordered the Howard ST001 Ignitor and replaced the original one (mine was burned out). Was not hard to replace, as jpit says - 3 screws and 3 wire nuts and a 26' ladder. So with new bulb and ignitor, light back to working as designed. Soooo, change the bulb soon after seeing this erratic behavior and should be fine.

The first one of these that I bought lasted for a couple of years until the problems with it turning itself off and on every few minutes was beyond annoying. I replaced the bulb and the photo control but neither seemed to stop the problem. So, I bought another fixture and installed it. Months later, it is causing all kinds of problems, too. The same thing is happening with the light cycling off and on every 5-10 minutes is going on with this one. I tried to replace the bulb but the new one will not screw into the fixture because of something wrong with the threads. I replaced the photo control and that stopped the repetitive cycling but it wouldn't ever go off with that one. So, I bought yet another photo control and installed it. It worked ONE day. Today, the light is on in the middle of the day and the fixture or some part of it is making a weird sound. It does supply a lot of light when it is working. I need to find something reliable and better and have spent way too much on this piece of junk and the one before this one.

I ignored the comments on this site and purchased the light. I should have listened. It goes on and off all night long. Now I have to get on the roof and replace the fixture. Save your time and money by purchasing a better unit.

I've bought 3 of these lights, NONE of them have lasted longer than a year. If they were 1/3 the price I would expect to have to replace poor quality starters and ballast. But for almost $100 I expect better.

Installed the light 30 feet up on 11/6/15. by 2/16 the light was flickering on and off. By 3/16 I had turned off power. Tried calling the numbers on the paper work for warranty and used email.. Neither worked. finally called home depot and they provided a different number. Called technical support--recommendation was to change the light bulb. I purchased a new Sylvania 100 w metal halide bulb at Lowes. Light now functions and new light is much brighter than original. suspect cheap bulb supplied with original fixture. costs to date--Original light--$85 and lift to get 30 feet up $80. so original install $165. New bulb $30. and lift $80. additional costs of $110. Total cost to date $275. If the new bulb doesn't last--we'll be going to LED--hopefully I'll be able to find an LED with the right base/wattage.
