How is this fixture attached? We have one in a closet that needs repair/replacement but it is not obvious how to remove the fixture from the ceiling. Thank you.
Asked by: Diana
It is held on by two screws. You must remove the curved plastic diffuser and the fluorescent tube. There are two slots in the metal base. Each slot has a large circular opening at one end. I held the fixture in the place I wanted and used a pencil to mark the ceiling in the small end of each slot. Then I drilled two pilot holes and screwed in two mounting screws. I put the fixture in place so the screw head went through the big holes. Then I slid the fixture to the right so the screw heads went to the small end of each slot. Next I tightened down each screw. As a final measure, I drilled a third hole and added another screw to keep the fixture from sliding. In the photo, the right slot has two screws. The screw in the big hole keeps the fixture from sliding. The other two screws hold it to the ceiling. To remove the old fixture, shut off the electricity. Then, take off the diffuser as mentioned above and remove the fluorescent tube. Loosen the two screws so you can slide the fixture to the left. Then it will slip off. If it is directly wired through the hole in the base, you will need to remove the metal cover with the pull switch on it. It is clipped to the fixture base near the mounting holes. Just squeeze the side so it disengages from the clips. Then it will open and you can access the wires.

How do I get the light bulb out to replace?

I don't have a manual
Asked by: Pups
Hello Pups, Gently press with your 8 fingers along on the front edge of the light cover up by where it meets the metal frame. There is a little bead that fits into a channel there. This will dis-engage the light cover to allow you to access the bulb. Thank you for your inquiry. Charlotte of the Home Depot Community.

Is the light ok in a bathroom

I understand that in a full bath a damp resistant light is required. Does the U/L certification on this unit indicate that it is?
Asked by: Tedd
Almost any light is fine in a bathroom. But if you want to put it inside a shower enclosure, you will need a fixture designed for that application. This one is not safe in a shower. All bathroom lights and outlets should be wired downstream of a Ground Fault Interrupter or GFI for the best safety.

The only available power is an unswitched outlet, so having the pull chain switch is nice. I like the metal case. The previous fixture was an all-plastic GE model that died after about a year and a half. This Lithonia model has a branded electronic ballast inside that looks more solid than the cheap circuit board in the GE item. It was relatively easy to install. I wired it to a 2-prong plug for the outlet. I added one strain relief clamp to a knockout in one end of the case and fed the plug wire in through that. I have been using it for two weeks. If it lasts 4 years or more, I'll be fully satisfied.

First off, this light fixture is hardwired so there is no plug on it to plug it in. That said, I'm no electrician but this light was easy to install and worked perfectly in our 6 foot wide closet. I don't use the pull chain to turn the light on, I have it controlled by a wall switch, so I can't attest to the durability of the pull chain on/off switch. A great light for the price.

My only complaint is if this light was displayed at the store, I did not see it. The light that came with this is very yellow in color and not cool white like I was looking for. But this is easily remedied by purchasing a new light. Overall very happy
