Does this have to be secured to and connected inside a box or can it be connected inside fixture?

Some T8 fixtures I have noted call for external hard wiring, don't know why as they still appear to be able to be surface mounted. Am assuming this unit is secured to ceiling or walls with various screw holes as a strip light has.

Answer:
You can go either way. The fixture has punch-outs for mounting directly to a ceiling box. You either use those, plus an associated 3/8" hole on the back, or you use one of the 1/2" punch-outs along the side and bring power in using a cable-grip or conduit.

Answer:
You un-snap the flexible plastic cover over the light, then turn the tube one-quarter of a turn until it loosens from the tombstones. Then, drop it out the bottom.

This fixture comes with a snap on/off service tray. To remove the light bulb, snap off the service tray and twist the bulb. Thanks for your question.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 13 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quick, easy installation and nice looking. I replaced an 18" fixture in a large closet that took an unpredictable amount of time to light when switched on. The installation was simple and quick. There was room inside the fixture to make all connections. There were no problems whatsoever with the install and I would recommend this product for a similar use. February 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good product This is a good product...my wife loves it...thank you April 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Closet Light with Lots of Room in the Enclosure . . . This light fixture has enough room inside to allow installation of an Amprobe Remcon RC-120S Closet Light Switch Relay. My closets had the old fashioned ceramic base bulb holders. This no longer meets the fire codes. The risk is that if someone uses an incandescent bulb in the fixture, then places an acrylic sweater on the top shelf of the closed, then leaves the light turned on inside the closet, the sweater can come in contact with the bare, hot bulb and set the sweater (and the rest of the closet) on Fire! The building codes now require covered fixtures. This one is a low cost fixture with acceptable quality. It has punch-outs on the top that allow installation of the Amprobe Remcon RC-120S Closet Light Switch Relay and a cord grip for incoming power. I wired the relay in series with the switch in case someone wants to leave the closet door open without the light being on. All you have to do is pull the cord to disconnect everything. I placed some Leviton 5059 outlet adapters on the octagonal box where the old ceramic light fixture was removed. I used a plug-in cord to reach from the outlet adapter to the light fixture. Please see my posted photographs for illustration of the wiring inside this 24" long fluorescent fixture. The Amprobe Remcon RC-120S Closet Light Switch Relay is wired to a Magnetic Reed Switch mounted on the closet door. February 25, 2015
