Can I install this fixture without going into the attic, which is inaccessible? I can fish the electrical, though.

This used to be called "old work."
Asked by: palavering
The problem is that it is a non IC fixture, which means that insulation cannot come in contact with the J box or the housing. You have to baffle around the fixture in the attic so no insulation comes in contact.

What is the beam angle?

Some lights are very wide angle, like 40 degrees, and some are narrow, like 20 -25 degrees. I am planning to install 3 lights over a countertop 4 feet from the light.
Asked by: LightingGuy
The unit I recently purchased for evaluation has an extremely wide field angle, on the order of 100˚. It is most definitely NOT 30˚.

The wiring box gives you three spots to push your wires through so I can't imagine there isn't a space you can't conveniently fit them into. They are very compact in height so you don't need a lot of headroom. They are very bright and the light itself is somewhat aimable because the bulb assembly can be adjusted (any direction around 360 degrees - to a limit of a few degrees off up/down axis) to shine in any particular direction (like a wall wash) rather than simply straight down. There is an optional kit for "new construction" buy I opted to simply rough in the wires, put up the ceiling, cut the prescribed hole and install these as though I was doing remodel work. I didn't see a value of fixing these in place first and then trying to measure and cut the drywall. The housing weighs almost nothing so I'm not worried about it being supported via the remodel spring clips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Fixture As an architect, I used these in my home because they have they same look and functionality of fixtures used in high-end hospitality and retail projects. I could not be more pleased with the end result. My only complaint is that the wiring box, once wired with flexible conduit, is nearly impossible to fit through the 3-1/8" hole in a retrofit installation. I HIGHLY recommend using Romex if code allows, in which case the installation would be quite easy. Nonetheless, I managed to get these installed and they are absolutely beautiful fixtures. They are dimmable with a compatible C-L type dimmer switch, and they dim down to a very low level, nearly off. A room of 6 of these only uses 24W of power when turned up full blast! And perfect light color temperature!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice and easy I bought & installed these LEDs a good month ago. They were cheap, they swivel, they look simple, they're small, they give nice light - I put seven of them on a dimmer: beautiful. They're easy to install in an existing ceiling (I never had done it before, took me half a day to cut, patch, install, another half a day to finish electrical), and they look very nice. Each light uses 3 Watt when at 100%, so together they use less than 1 bedside light. Yeah, these are nice lights. Highly recommended, very happy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, but not what I thought it would be. While this broad and fairly diffuse source would be good for some uses, it fails as an accent light. The presence of a gimbal implies a narrow beam of light that can be aimed. But the gimbal ends up not really doing much, since the light source is so diffuse, it can't really be aimed at objects. Basically, you have very little control of the beam with this particular lamp. This is a confusing issue to me, because I see a sales rep addressing this subject in the Q&A's here by saying the lamp has a 30˚ beam. I'd call it more like 60˚ to 100˚. This disparity makes me wonder if different lamps have been supplied over the years, which is fairly likely given the ever-evolving nature of LED lights. This lack of QC is annoying. One warning: You don't want to use these in a room with low ceilings, as the wide field angle means you'll have the bright light source in your field of vision, which could be very annoying. An accent light should have a reasonably sharp beam cutoff, which this does not. I'll give it credit for having fairly decent color rendering, a warm white temperature without the weird yellow and blue peaks that plague cheap LED lamps. I can't comment on the ease of installation since I returned it. The build quality seemed decent enough.
