Some lights are very wide angle, like 40 degrees, and some are narrow, like 20 -25 degrees. I am planning to install 3 lights over a countertop 4 feet from the light.

Answer:
The unit I recently purchased for evaluation has an extremely wide field angle, on the order of 100˚. It is most definitely NOT 30˚.

Answer:
It's a flood, so about 35-40 degrees. The hot spot on your counter would be about 36" diameter.

Answer:
Howdy Alan,
This lighting kit is not rated as a moisture-proof enclosure. When using any electricity in moist atmosphere it is important for safety to have the correct lighting.
There is also local building codes that must be researched before just in case there are electrical codes to be met.
A licensed electrician is a wise decision in this case.
Happy Lighting,
Coach Dave

LED "bulb" (which is really just a diode on a board) is built in... it doesn't take a bulb.

Answer:
I decided to buy the recessed fixture and let fate decide if I could install it in old construction. The answer is: a resounding YES! So, I'm happy and you don't have to spend any of your time on me. By the way, it is bright! It took twenty minutes to install it. I replaced a surface fixture with this LED recessed fixture.

Answer:
Yes you can. If code allows, I'd recommend using Romex in lieu of flexible armored cable, however. It is very difficult to fit the armor flex connections through the holes when you have to push the fixture once it's wired up into the ceiling hole. Make sure any insulation is kept clear a min of 3" clear of the fixture housing; this is not an IC rated housing.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 34 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good, but not what I thought it would be. While this broad and fairly diffuse source would be good for some uses, it fails as an accent light. The presence of a gimbal implies a narrow beam of light that can be aimed. But the gimbal ends up not really doing much, since the light source is so diffuse, it can't really be aimed at objects. Basically, you have very little control of the beam with this particular lamp. This is a confusing issue to me, because I see a sales rep addressing this subject in the Q&A's here by saying the lamp has a 30˚ beam. I'd call it more like 60˚ to 100˚. This disparity makes me wonder if different lamps have been supplied over the years, which is fairly likely given the ever-evolving nature of LED lights. This lack of QC is annoying. One warning: You don't want to use these in a room with low ceilings, as the wide field angle means you'll have the bright light source in your field of vision, which could be very annoying. An accent light should have a reasonably sharp beam cutoff, which this does not. I'll give it credit for having fairly decent color rendering, a warm white temperature without the weird yellow and blue peaks that plague cheap LED lamps. I can't comment on the ease of installation since I returned it. The build quality seemed decent enough. September 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by recessed LED 3" can lights I removed 3 existing 100 WATT 3" CANLITE AND INSTALLED 3 NEW 35 WATT led 3" CAN LIGHTS. My customer LOVES THEM!! and saves on the power bill too. September 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by NOT LED I bought and installed 4 of these can lights in my home. I noticed that they were putting off a lot of heat and after closer inspection found that all 4 of them have halogen bulbs in them. I called Lithonia Lighting and they want me to uninstall them and send pictures. Glad that won't be a ridiculous pain for something that they surely know is an issue. Should have bought the cheaper halogen version and just installed quality LED bulbs myself. Would have been cheaper anyway.... May 18, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by cabnets/toilets/plumbing/tile The order of cabinets were well put together, excellent work, good craft man doing the cabinets; tile was excellent, 100% what I need was at home depot February 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice product but poor quality control I bought 8 of them and wired them in a ceiling. When I powered the string, the breaker triggered. I first suspected a wiring issue but after a long trouble shooting session, I found out that in one of the fixture, the live wire had been pinched into the frame. A simple quality test at the factory would have revealed I got that light replaced at the store. Another odd thing with this light is that there is no way to put the light back through the hole if you wire it correctly using one of the 3 pre-punched hole. I had to buy a puncher 1/2" and I punched the 4th side. Finally I have not yet moved into the room I am remodeling and one of the 8 LED bulbs is already out. October 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love the look I bought these lights for my hall way. I wanted a clean look and I fell in love with how they light up my hallway. I loved it so much I installed them in 2 of my bathroom and it totally changed the look and feel. I'm thinking of adding them to the rest of the house. December 9, 2015
