Customer Questions & Answers

What is the average bulb life in hours?

I would like to know how long the bulbs last when ran 1 to 2 hours per night, and in a dry northern CA climate with occasional rain. Can rain damage the glass or the fixture?
Asked by: DIYGuy
Our HOA (Colorado) uses several of these lights for security. They are on from dusk to dawn. The 300W bulbs last about 3 months for us. We had the glass lens on one light shatter after several years. The fixture is relatively inexpensive and not too hard to replace. The bulbs are easy to replace but remember -never- to touch the bulbs with you bare hands. Your body oils create a hot spot where you touch the bulbs and cause premature failure.

How are these wired in

Do they have knock outs
Asked by: Anonymous
Must be grounded. It comes with wire nuts. It should screw down on to a metal box when using a metal plate that accepts the fixture threaded stand pipe. The nut is on the fixture. Most applications will use the plate but It does not come with a plate you must purchase that extra. You can not and do not mount the lamp to anything but to an approved base. It uses T-3 bulb and comes with a choice of bulbs 300 watt or 500 watt bulb. The fixture when on for a short time will be to hot to touch. You need at least one inch clearance around the back, top and bottom, left and right sides, That said the front glass is extremely hot. Absolutely do not mount this device directly on wood. I am picturing some folks might be tempted to drill the lamp and mount it on the wall and that would be a good way to have a fire. Do not mount closer then 4 feet from ground. This lamp is for outdoor use only.

does it mount to a rectangular or round box?

Asked by: Anonymous
It will mount on either one as the cover you choose for your box is the determining factor, they make the correct cover to mount this fixture for either round or rectangular.

300-Watt Or 500-Watt Quartz Outdoor Halogen Bronze Visored Floodlight is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 49.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from JUNK!!!! Dont Waste Your Money Have gone through at least a dozen of these fixtures over the past couple years. They essentially destroy themselves, no repair/replacement parts exist and the cost in bulbs which die in a couple of weeks only adds to my aggravation. Specifics: The fixture sockets burn up melt and fall apart, the gaskets dry up and come loose when changing bulbs, I use high quality rough duty bulbs but no luck. The cost of these fixtures is akin to highway robbery, I was a electrician for many years and Lithonia had a decent reputation but that has since gone in the toilet. Going to convert to LED and eat the huge initial cost but will save over the long term, rest assured I will go elsewhere when the time comes to make the purchase. If intent on using these types of fixtures buy them by the case online and save some money otherwise seek out the advice and support of an electrical supply house.

I have purchased this lamp in the past and been happy with the lamp. However there was problem was with the process. The box looked like it had been purchased before so I asked an store employee if their any other units in the store. Your inventory showed eight but after he and I looked for 10 or 15 minutes I gave in against my better judgement based on past experience and purchase the only lamp we could fine. When I got to my car I opened to box and sure enough there were parts missing. I thing you need to be more careful in putting previously purchased back on the shelf. It is about a 45 minute round trip from my home to your store.

This is an improvement over the similar fixture it replaced after the screws that attached the face and lens to the case rusted out after over 15 years in the weather. This model replaces those two screws with an easy to access spring clip that holds the hinged faceplate on. Changing bulbs will be much easier. It was also easy to install by screwing the threaded conduit into the existing standard rectangular electrical box cover with a threaded 1/2" hole. The case is cheaply constructed of cast zinc metal, but functional. Comes with both 300-watt (bright) and 500 watt (very bright) bulbs. If it were in a very remote, hard-to-reach location I might look for a better made fixture, but I expect it to last for years and it will be easy and cheap to replace again.

The shade which is plainly visible in the picture will not work as intended if you hang it under the rafter. It will work The shade will function as designed only in a wall mount. There is no way to reverse the hinge. All said no big deal mounted it upside down looks crazy but it functions. It would be nice if it would have been designed to reverse the shade top or bottom, then it likely would have cost twice as much. In my case the roof is 25 feet up and changing out the bulbs with the clasp vs screws will be very easy in the future. Sides of the lamp by the reflector hare coated in what looks like over spray so no reflections of light will come off of them. It would have been nice had they cared or put enough pride in the lamp to at least protected the bright metal from the over spray. I would have given the lamp a 5 had the shade not been on the lamp. Maybe even a breakaway shade would work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good replacement lights I was worried because of the reviews. I have 7 Halogen spotlights on my property and they have worked great. 2 needed to be replaced and it seemed to difficult to find. So far these are working well and were a good replacement for two fixtures that were thirty years old.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outdoor halogen floodlight Replacement lamp of similar type but this one installed very easily and to replace the bulb does not require a screwdriver like the previous model. Nice light spread and uses either 300 or 500 watt both of which are included in the package. Very please with this unit.
