Solved a lighting problem that involved covering a damaged ceiling section. The lighting, although fluorescent, is quite soft. We only installed two of the lighting tubes, however, as the other 2 didn't work. Fortunately, the light is more than bright with just two tubes.

One of the ballasts in our 38 yr old fixture (T12) finally went out. We could've (1) replaced the T12 ballast, (2)get a new T8 ballast which would drive all 4 bulbs (3) get a new T8 fixture. We decided that 38 yrs of service was enough, so we went with option 3. We liked the look of the wood frame this model provides - it is real wood and the overall unit is sturdy and good quality.
Here are the tips we can offer:
1. buy at the store, not online. Ask the lighting attendant at the store to open up the box to make sure all parts are there - the first box we picked was missing the instructions and the screws to attach the metal housing to the wooden frame.
2. 2 people are needed for installation. Some could probably do it alone, but its much easier with two.
You will also need a step ladder.
3. You don't need to use the foam tape on top of the wooden frame - you'll need to calk, anyway. After installation, just use a bead of white calk (if your ceiling is white) all around the frame where the frame meets the ceiling. This totally prevents light leakage at top.
4. Installation instructions are easy to follow. I suggest, tho, using plastic screw-in anchors rather than toggle bolts - you don't even have to drill a hole, they just screw into the drywall. Of course, if you happen to line up on a wooden ceiling joist, just use a wood screw. If you use the plastic anchors, make sure to get the ones rated for 50 lbs or more. Also, you'll probably have to get washers for the anchors because the heads on the screws that go with them are pretty small. Note - no hardware for attaching this unit to the ceiling is provided.
5.Bulbs are not provided.Just make sure to get T8 32 watt. There are several options as to cool white, warm white, bright, etc.
Overall, we are very pleased with the quality look and performance of this product and would recommend it.

Easy to install and looks great. Reason it does not get 5 stars is the outside packaging did not state what size bulbs to buy or how many - had to open the box, search through the paper work to figure out what size and how many.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 1234 no corner anchors
there is no way to anchor the corners of this fixture so light spills out the top making both the ceiling and the fixture look warped. I was so disappointed.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Goodsoninlaw This light fixture pleased my mother-in-law!
My mother-in-law needed more light in her kitchen. This 4 bulb fixture did the trick. I found it on Home Depot on line, read the reviews and ordered it. It arrived promptly, was packaged securely, and had no damage. Some reviews mentioned light leakage, so I used the foam tape supplied, but also used some aluminum foil that I taped between the inside of the wood molding and the back of the metal fixture base. No leakage at all! I did have to cut a different hole for the electrical connection since it was not in the center of the fixture, but that was not difficult. Then it was just drilling 2 holes in the ceiling and putting it up. The reflector fit fine. It provides plenty of light for her kitchen. I now have one happy mother-in-law!
