Does this require a ground (not neutral)

I tried another manufacturers switch and it required a ground. The house is old, and this particular box is not grounded .

Will the lights turn on when motion is detected or do you have to turn the lights on manually?

I'm looking for a motion detector switch for my garage to turn the lights on when motion is detected but will shut off after a certain amount of time. I don't want a switch that has a permanent on feature. Is this what I'm looking for? Thanks

Your can turn it on manually and auto. But you can also set it to manual on It will always auto shut off.

Decorator Vacancy Motion Sensing Self-Contained Relay Wall Switch, White is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from GOOD WALL SWITCH SENSOR I INSTALLED THREE OF THEM. THEY ARE IN DIFFERENT ROOMS AROUND THE OFFICE AND HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM OF PEOPLE NOT TURNING OFF THE LIGHTS WHEN THEY LEAVE THE ROOM.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from All bad after less than a year Consistently awful! The electrician installed over ten in our house and with the year every single one has stopped functioning. I'm changing them all out to a different brand. Think twice about buying this item.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY!!!!!! Switch failed after 6 months and then was told by Lithonia that they do not honor warranty claims on anything sold at Home Depot!! Worthless piece of junk. Read the other reviews and heed them. Buy a different brand and avoid this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job it's designed for well My only issue with this switch is my own fault - I did not look at the spec closely enough to realize that it is not a motion-sensing ON switch. You have to turn the light on manually. Then as long as it senses motion within the configured time frame it keeps the light on otherwise turns it off. But it works fine for my application - extra shoplights in my garage - and I can live without the auto-ON function.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The motion sensor didn't work The switch was installed and programmed by an electrician but the sensor didn't work. I reprogrammed it but the sensor didn't work. I replaced the switch with another brand and returned the three I purchased

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light works the way we need. Works just the way we want it. Have seen in commercial applications and now here at home.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Still requires a ground I do have older wiring in my house, and was unable to use most of the other motion switches secondary to not having a neutral line. As this was advertised as not needing the neutral I purchased it. However, it does not function without a working ground either! It does state this in the directions. I don't know how well it works as a result, 3 stars for improper advertising.
