Answer:
The root cause for the bulb to burn out is the ballast, an electronic driver that energizes the bulb. The ballast is either cheaply made or a faulty design. It is the heart of the fixture. I am surprised that a known companyany, Lithonia would have their name on this. I did take the fixture back and Home Depot did refund my money after all the trouble I had with several fixtures.

Concerning the Lithonia OWP3 42F Mini Wall Pack Flourescent
Having lived through ten days of darkness and brown out conditions due to Superstore Sandy, I can tell you that each time the power was reduced or just prior to losing power, the fixture would go out out or fail to fire up. Reduced voltage to the fixture could be the cause but that condition seems unlikely. Once normal power was restored the fixture worked well for a while then failed for good. In my case it smelled liked it had burned internally. I returned it to HD and wrote a negative review.
I commented in my review that I should have read all the others before purchasing. When one reads the many negative comments it's easy to see the pattern of failure that emerges. Various applications ending with a failed fixture or lamp in a relativity short period of time.
I have and still use other lighting products from this manufacture's and they work fine. I wish I could be more helpful. Find out if HD will let you return it. Read Less

The bulb is is a PLT-42WGX24q-4/4P4100K, and if you do not find it with their regular bulb supply look in the area where you bought the fixture at. But good luck with this, when mine burned out it took the fixture with it, both bulb and light fixture need replacing now.

I replaced the original bulb with a lower-wattage version. I tossed the packaging so I don't have the bulb number, but this bulb was available in different watts at the local HD. I believe it is a 4-pin CFL type bulb, reasonably priced (about $7).

Answer:
Remove the two screws on either side of the light fixture, this will give you access to the bulb. I do not know about the availability of an on line O&M for this product. You might try the manufacturers web site, Lithonia is usually pretty good about providing information on their products.

There should be two phillips head screws, one each located on the front of each side of the lenses cover. Bulb pulls out from socket for easy replacement.

Loosen the two screws on the face of the fixture. The entire face lifts off exposing the socket and reflector. Pull out the old lamp, line up the four pins and snap in the new one.
I did not find an O&M on line but if you installed the fixture yourself, you should have already gone through this process.

Answer:
I am not sure if the fixture was designed for this or not. Since the fixture is listed as an outdoor wall pack my biggest concern would be the amount of heat buildup, it could be/become a fire hazard. I would have to differ you to the manufacture for this question, they can tell you if it passed the UL listing for other installations.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent buy. Easily installed and covers the entire area that I needed lit. Never come in the dark again. Great for night safety if you are coming and going after dark. The plastic covering prevent the bulbs from being broken. July 26, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Dusk to Dawn Florecent Lights I Have 5 of these lights around my house, They are Awesome when they work right!!... But... They seem to burn out very quickly!... Some will last 4 or 5 months? Others anywhere from 2 to 8 months. I have literally spent $100s of dollars on Replacement bulbs over last 6 years!!! I'm Currently looking for other options!!.. Love Them when they work Right!!! Thanks. January 1, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bulb burned out again in less then two/three months JUNK... I have bought more then two of these lights and have to buy another one. These lights look nice but do not last. I just bought a bulb for it within the last two months and burned out already. PIECE OF JUNK! Light will work one night then not the next. I am going to replace whole light and never buy another product from this Company again. Save your money and buy another brand. June 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great lighting Put up the light where an existing light was. Lights up the yard on that side. September 15, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Nice light, when it worked. Bought this light fixture just over a year ago. Worked fine for 6 months, then bulbs wouldn't last long. Now it won't work with a new bulb ($12.95 each) home depot won't help and lithonia says it has 1 year warranty. May 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just What I Needed Well, I see all the bad reviews here. But, I've had 3 of these fixtures in for over 3 years and they are working out fine. Installed them on ends of fence posts over driveway for security. They were just the color and size I was looking for to place on my 6x6-in posts. Lights were easy to install, look really good, and have been working fine for over 3 years (since spring 2012). The Depot stocks the replacement bulbs here for about $9. But, I haven't needed any as they continue to work just fine in all kinds of weather no matter how hot/cold, wet, snowy, etc. They put out a ton of nice white light and thoroughly illuminate my drive. Yes, ballasts and/or sensors can go bad on ANY outdoor fixture. I guess it's a matter of of luck. Contrary to many reviewers, you can get replacement ballast/sensors at electrical/lighting shops at a reasonable price. I am totally satisfied with the product to this point. July 30, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do Not Purchase Purchased six of these lights and one didn't work from the begining and four more went out over the next year... This may be one of the worst purchases of my life. Take my advice and stay away from these. April 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DUSK TO DAWN THIS LIGHT WAS THE SECOND ONE I HAVE PURCHASED FROM HOME DEPOT. IT WAS EXCELLENT IN MY PRIMARY HOUSE AND I BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE FOR MY SECONDARY HOUSE. MAY MAKE ANOTHER PURCHASE FOR THIS LIGHT FOR MY THIRD HOUSE AS WELL!!! LOVING THE QUALITY OF THE SOLAR DUSK TO DAWN LIGHTS AT MY HOUSES. INSTALLATION WAS SIMPLE AS I AM A FEMALE. February 23, 2016
