Mine are exposed outside also. They should hold up and the brightness should be plenty

Is the ballast in this instant on?

LED replacement T8 bulbs require an electronic ballast that is "instant on" to work. Just having an electronic balance is not enough for led bulb replacemets.

Purchased this to replace a rusty thirty year old dual T12 tube fluorescent fixture in a basement. When you consider the price, I think it is a good product. This fixture with a Philips InstantFit T8 LED replacement lamp turned out to be actually $5 cheaper than the integrated LED version of this fixture. Go figure. However, I did experience a few issues during installation: 1) Ground lead fixed to the body of the light is about half the length of the hot and neutral leads coming from the ballast. I had to unscrew and rotate the wire lead to get an extra 1/2" or so to be able to use a wire nut with the existing wiring. 2) If you are planning on using the knockout on the end piece, do note that the 1/2" Romex connector is a really tight fit. The lock ring does not have enough room to rotate freely so you have to jam it in place and then rotate the connector instead. If you like to have the connector screws facing directly down there's a bit of trial and error as you have to remove the lock ring, rotate it a bit, put it back, and then see how the connector tightens. 3) Ballast is held in place with one nut and that nut was loose and misaligned (holding only one tab) in the fixture I received. Not a big deal to unscrew and tighten it back down properly but it does show that quality control isn't necessarily the best with these fixtures. Pros: 1) Works with the Philips InstantFit T8 LED replacement lamp. The ballast (Pacific Ballast EB-232IS-120-RES) is not on the list of certified ballasts that Philips put out but it still works without any issues. I did not notice any humming or other aberrant sounds. 2) Very light. I had to drill different mounting holes for this fixture to work in a spot where an old fixture was previously installed. One large wood screw is enough to hold the fixture temporarily if you need to figure out how to get everything square. All in all, I think this is a decent fixture for the price. If the ballast ever goes, I will replace it with a ballast bypass LED tube. However in the meantime this fixture with the Philips InstantFit LED lamp is probably the best bang for the buck you can get at the moment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice light, easy installation I purchased 3 of these to replace my old fluorescent lights mounted on the ceiling above my cupboards. Having read all the reviews I used an arbor press to punch the top knockouts (I am a girl after all so I look for easy alternatives to muscle). Just a little wiggling with pliers and they came out clean and easy. I cut one long side of the box they came in and, using the fixture as a guide, marked the center holes and keyholes on the cardboard to create a template. I taped the cardboard template to the ceiling and drilled my holes. I installed a toggle bolt into each hole, connected the wires and slid the fixture onto the toggle bolts using the keyholes. A few turns on the bolts snugged the fixture to the ceiling. The covers were then snapped in place and a new bulb was installed. Total time to remove the old fixtures and install my new ones was about 50 minutes. The lights come on instantly and my kitchen is so much brighter. Very nice lights and straightforward installation.
