Customer Questions & Answers

Can I turn on this light and leave it one without it being set to motion detector and turning it off?

Can I just turn the light on and leave it on? Or does it have to stay on motion detector?
Asked by: AngVel
Yes you can do so. If you install it with an override switch indoor(It's recommended), you can switch OFF and ON within about 10 seconds, and it will stay ON continuously, independently of the sensors until the next dawn cycle. I tried it and it works just like the user manual said.

Lithonia website says this is eave or wall mount, HD website says wall mount only

Asked by: Trimmerboy
I have installed three of these fixtures. I would consider this fixture to be wall mount (vertical) only. The way that the outer case is constructed it would collect water if mounted in a horizontal position.

I installed the light and when it detects motion it flashes on and off. Can this be fixed or does it need replaced?

Asked by: jason
This light shines so bright that when not installed properly, it will constantly trick the photo cell to believe that it's daylight and consequently shut it down. Do not allow to much light in the sensor. If you do, it will be flickering non stop because it will alternate between daylight and dark night mode all night, non stop

Is it a water Proof? Does rain cause any damange to this equipment?

Is it a water Proof? Does rain cause any damange to this equipment?
Asked by: Sri
The light is completely open in the back. If it is mounted to a flat surface you need to caulk around it. If it sits proud of the wall, you will need to fabricate a backing plate. See my review.

I put a lot of faith in what reviewers say before deciding on a purchase but all to often many reviews are lacking in details that would be of more importance than just saying it 'meets my needs', 'happy with purchase',...etc. However, there are some who spend a great deal of time in providing very specific details that are very useful and to those people I say many thanks. I hope this review will fit in the later category and will assist other buyers in their choices. The unit was delivered in just the store packaging and not in another with peanuts or air bags. It looked as if it fell from a plane and was dragged down a street. It had so much repair tape on it I figured it was going to be in pieces, but to my surprise it was undamaged. The construction of this light is of very good quality but there are two items worth noting. First involves Quality Control. The mounting plate comes attached to the body by two screws. On mine, I was unable to remove one of them. It would not budge no matter what I did and I ultimately stripped the head. Even using a screw extractor didn't work. Well about a half hour of struggling I finally removed it but had to re-tap the two holes (to English threads) and find some replacements. I figured I just got a bad one. The second item worth noting is of importance. The unit is completely open on the back. If you are mounting this on anything other than a flat surface you will need to fabricate a back plate to prevent water (and insects) from entering. I made mine from Plexiglas, with a small overlap on all sides for caulking. I cut 3 small holes for the mounting screws and power feed. This cost a rating star. If you don't have a recessed electrical box and are planning to make your electrical connection inside the light, like I did, you should note there is very little room to stuff the wires and connectors but it can be done with some finesse. I wish the manufacturer and Depot would either show a picture of the back or note it in the item description. I regret I didn't think of taking photos of the back, so forgive me. As to the function of the light, it works very well. It provides more light than I expected. Lumens, Lux, Foot Candles....Whatever happed to WATTS! Growing up where everything light related was expressed in watts makes it harder to equate, in your head, and decide what is equivalent. There should be an equivalence of some type listed to help people with their choices. I think the listed sensor area is a little overstated too. Mine is mounted about 12' above the ground and I can get to within 25' - 30' before it activates. It also senses below so you can't hug a wall and avoid it. I hope this helps someone.

The final product is acceptable, however the quality of the metal parts are generally low quality due to poor fit. During the install several of the light fixture aiming adjustments needed some extra tender loving care to correctly lock the light fixture into the desired position. I installed three of these units and all of them were contrary to what I would consider an easy setup due to poor quality of the hardware.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Strobe effect, poor quality control and no longevity I bought three of the lights for my house. Two are still working, but with minor issues. One will come on during the day when it senses motion in addition to coming on at night as it should. The second is still working, but it's motion sensitivity has decreased, so you have to get closer to the light then before to get the light to come on. The third light seemed to work fine when I installed it, but it would turn on and off by itself. The light usually stays on for about 3 minutes, turns off, flashes and then turns back on repeating the cycle. You would think something that costs this much would have better quality control. Don't waste your money.
