Customer Questions & Answers

Can it work for a sprinkler?

Hi. I need a pump that will move water from an 8 foot deep cistern, through a 40 foot horizontal run to a sprinkler that needs a minimum of 8gpm. As far as I can tell, this pump will do the job. Since I know nothing about pumps, is there someone who can confirm (or negate) this for me?
Asked by: BetteGH
That is not an appropriate application for this pump. This pump is designed to lift water only, not to lift it and then pressurize it. So it will lift it the 8' feet but not then push it through your sprinkler head. You want something like SKU 204317249 if you put that number in the search block on the Home Depot web site a Grundfos pump will come up. This pump can be used as a shallow well pump. It will pull the water and then push it. Chris 978 651 3301

How do I clean the pump?

The instructions said, Removable inlet screen for easy cleaning, how do I remove the screen to clean the pump?
Asked by: Ayda
It pulls off. If that is proving difficult. You can also use a flat screw driver to pry it off. Place the screw driver tip in the place between the screen and the bottom of the pump. Turn the screw driver and the screen will pop off. Chris 978 651 3301

oil leaking out of cord fitting how do i fix

oil leaking out of cord fitting how do i fix
Asked by: smitty
This pump like many has a motor that is bathed in dielectric oil for cooling. If the pump is run hard the oil will heat up and expand. It is not uncommon for oil to then wick out of certain gaps. However it is also not uncommon for people to inadvertently use the cord as a leash and to pull the pump by it. If this dislodges the permanently attached cord or the epoxy connection inside quite a bit more leakage may occur. This is not repairable in the field. In many larger pumps it is but this is factory sealed and that type of field repair is not encouraged.

What is the difference between 505000 and 505176?

Asked by: ADD
The 50500 has a 10' power cord and the 505176 has a 18' power cord. It is not uncommon for companies to make the same pump with different length cords as it is always a best practice to avoid using extension cords around water.

I use it to remove the standing rain water from my swimming pool cover. Along with a self-made screen to keep the leaves from getting to the pump, it works excellent. Removes plenty of water in a short time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst pump ever The flow switch kept this pump running after the sump pit was drained. I followed the Franklin electrical tech recommendation to clear the vacuum tube to the switch. It worked for one day and then kept running. Who cares how easy it is to install this pump if you cannot trust it to work like it was advertised? I had it for 2 weeks then returned it to Home Depot for full refund.
