trying to figure out the difference between models 554425 and 554435. they seem the same-- can you help?
Asked by: Shayne
Yes I can. This is almost needlessly confusing but I understand why they do it his way. You have listed the Item numbers but these also have Model numbers and you may notice that the second model number for the 554435 has a "T" at the end. The T is for tubing as this unit comes with 20' of discharge tubing for the convenience of the installer. Where as the other does not. So if it is a new installation you may choose to use the 554435 and if you are replacing a unit that has worn out you may elect to get the 554425. Other than that the units are identical.

I,m replacing my 554425 pump for the 3rd time. It was installed with a carrier furnace, a/c and an aprilaire humidifier 15 years ago.Is this normal?
Asked by: Shayne
Yes and No. As general rule people treat these as disposable appliances and don;t put a lot of thought into them. So let me tell you what limits there life so that you can decide if you want to put the time into maximizing it. It you are pumping condensate generated by your air conditioning, this is fairly clean water and can result in the growth of life inside the unit. Over time this stuff can cause the unit to work harder and limit its life. So you could remove it periodically and clean out the chamber with some hot water with a little cleaner in it. On the other hand you may be pumping away condensate generated by the burning of fuel in your furnace. Yes, one of the major bi products of burning fossil fuels is water. In older equipment this water was exhausted as invisible steam. With high efficiency equipment this water is in liquid form. It is collected and pumped away. This condensate contains the other bi products of the fuel and has the acidity of lemon juice. It will corrode plastics and other materials. For this type of condensate Little Giant has developed the VCMX series of condensate pumps. They are made of materials engineered to be more resistant to this corrosive environment and are available from The Home Depot. So in answer to your question I would need to know a little more about your specific application to offer an opinion as to why you are getting a shorter life than I would expect. My expectation would be 7 to 10 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pump, Easy to install My first pump died due to lack of previous home owner maintenance. I found this Home Depot replacement online to be higher priced than other dealers. However, shipping was free and it was in stock vs other dealers. Plus, if there was a problem, it stated I could go to my local store and return the item!!! I went with Home Depot. Received the item in about 5 days. It was easy to self install as I had labeled the wires while disconnecting my old one. Thank you Home Depot!
