Customer Questions & Answers

Can I buy Extend for rust on metal on line?

Asked by: willron82
I'm unsure what "on line" means. If you mean a wire, then sure. I've used it on any kind of rust. It chemically changes the rust rather than removing it so it wouldn't work on things you don't want to look black where the rust was.

can you use both the brush on navel jell and the spray for badly rusted pipes

would it work best if you brushed on the extend navel jell and then use the spray to make sure you get all the nooks and crannies around the pipe and for max protection
Asked by: jk2372
I've actually done so and it works fine. The navel jelly will remove some of the rust and the extend finishes the job. I do use a wire brush to remove loose rust. The surface should be completely clean and dry in my opinion prior to painting with extend.

Not waiting the 24 hour time frame may affect the adhesion of the paint to the neutralized surface.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have for all DIY'ers! The absolute best product in the refinishing dept I've ever used. You scrape off heavy rust, lightly sand where you can, dust off debris, and wipe off any grease with alcohol, then.... spray all over. Zaps rust completely! This chemically changes the rust to neutralize it, then cures into a surface coating, mostly clear and blackish in parts. You can then prime and paint over this. I bought one can, then went back for more, and would you believe it... Home Depot does not carry this any longer!!!!! Biggest disappointment ever. Loctite is located back East, so you have to call them 3 hrs ahead of 4:30 pm when they close. I intend to get more of this from Loctite. I cannot find this in ANY hardware store and hope it is not discontinued. If so, they will give me the formula!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used for over 15 years This is one of the best products I've ever used. I always remove loose rust if needed, normally with a wire brush attached to a drill. I've used this on so many items over the years and it's always done a great job. It turns the rust a shiny black color. Some things like tools, I've just left that color. Other like a gas can that was very rusty from being exposed to salt water, I painted over the top of the extend and it worked great. I'm a handyman and a very critical consumer and this stuff has been awesome for me. I've turned rusty items that I'd normally had to have thrown out into useful ones.
