Customer Questions & Answers

Will this glue work on Lexan ?

Trying to repair a broken piece of Lexan
Asked by: RonB
While this Locktite product may work, lexan is typically bonded with Weldon Scigrip 4, 8 or 16. Weldon 4, 8 and 16 are for lexan to lexan bonds and are used by most fab shops who specialize in lexan. 4 and 8 have different set-times, 16 is a gel, otherwise any of them chemically weld lexan, permanently.

Will this work on a pair of plastic kitchen scissors?

Asked by: itsmyworld
It will work on most plastics; however, it will not bond soft flexible plastics such as polyethylene or polypropylene.

I doubt i used it wrongly but first attempt at plastic bonding didn't work so well as the broken plastic pieces broke again to the touch. Then it plastic bonded its own cap and nozzle preventing further use. Subsequently even after it plastic bonded its own cap and nozzle the contents started hardening and in the end it is useless. Absolutely useless. Now im wondering if this can be returned since it completely failed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very effective! I have a pair of Plantronics Bluetooth headphones that had broken. The plastic part that wraps over the ear had snapped, but the ribbon cable inside was still working. As a matter of fact I wore them several times while the ear piece was broken. I tired a few different products but the bond just wouldn't hold. I was skeptical about this product, but for the price it was worth a try - one heck of a lot cheaper than buying a new Bluetooth headset! Followed instructions: used primer pen (it is just like a highlighter marker) on both sides of the headset, then a little bit of glue on one side. Pushed the two sides together and did my best to align. Held it for about 60 seconds. Let it rest for 10 minutes then proceeded to wear them doing yard work. It worked perfectly! I'm also a runner and I've worn them to run about 20 miles in the past 10 days. They continue to function just like new and the side I glued is nearly indistinguishable. I included a picture of the seam/crack that I glued up. I'm searching for other things to glue up - well worth my money!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did the Job For Me! My washing machine would not drain and spin. When I took off the cover, I saw that the lid switch, which was made of plastic, had broken. The two molded screw locations had split lengthwise, allowing the switch to drop and not permitting the lid to contact it, Replacement switches were $35-$50, and none were available locally. We needed the machine to work NOW, not in several days. I decided to spend the $4 and give the glue a try. It worked exactly as advertised! I put the activator on both sides of the break, waited 60 seconds, and then applied the glue to one side. After 30 seconds, the glue had set. I put some soap on the screws and carefully drove them into the switch. They held! This was the best $4 I have spent in quite some time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Surface Prep For Hot Glue Had to repair or replace a $25 humidifier water bottle made of polyethylene (same as milk bottles) which had cracked from age. Repeatedly tried hot glue sticks which are made of same material, but would not bond. Tried Activator alone to prepare surface for hot glue bandage. Worked like a charm. A must-have for your household toolbox.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Works best on itself. Bought not one but two packages because I had multiple projects to complete. Good thing I did because the first package I opened the activator became stuck in its lid, opened the second package because time was now a factor.. Opened part two, got exactly 2 uses before the glue sealed itself shut. Needed to finish 2 more of the projects asap, opened the last part two tube only to have this do the exact thing at about the equivalent of one and a half of my last two projects. Now let me mention the projects consisted of gluing a candle stick holder to a hard plastic cup.... I was not gluing the Eiffel tower... Once on, the glue worked well for its purpose, that is the only reason it received one star from me. At $8 for two sets of glue, one quite expects to get more than 3 1/2 squeezes of glue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lived up to expectations :( Gluing modern plastics is tough and I did not think that this would work but was willing to give it a try. Tried to repair HDPE (high density polyethylene) item. Absolutely no bond after two attempts using activator followed by bonder as directed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost miraculous! My Camera battery cover latch broke ( for Canon EOS 1D Mark II, battery: CANON NI-MH NP-E3). It is a plastic to plastic repair job with very little surface contact area, say, 30mm squared - 10mm x 3mm. I felt this is the correct product and so decided to try it out. First I applied the activator, which is more like a felt-tip marker, so I applied that to both surfaces and waited for 30 seconds, and when dry, I applied very sparingly the adhesive from the other tube and held firmly for One minute. Lo and behold, I got a good and strong bond, and I didn't get the tell-tale streak around the edges like the other cyanoacrylate glues - indeed, the join was almost invisible. From previous experience with other glues, and given the lack of surface area, and no substantial join gap, I feel that no other glue would have worked satisfactorily. But more importantly, with this product, I got a very strong, and clean join, so I'm very happy. I am going to leave the set-up over-night to allow it to cure completely, before installing in my camera. I am very impressed so far, and would not hesitate to recommend this product for plastic joining.
