Answer:
The PL Premium adhesive is a “reactive chemistry” dependent upon air and small minute amounts of moisture either in the air or on surfaces it contacts as the catalyst for curing. The adhesive should be above 41°F (5°C) and below 95°F (35°C) for application. The dry time is approximately 24 to 48 hours @ 25°C (78°F) and 50% RH. Note: Cure time is dependent upon temperature, humidity, porosity of substrate Read More

Paintable, or not? Fill osb floor gaps?

This question is from PL Premium 10 fl. oz. Polyurethane Construction Adhesive (12-Pack)
Asked by
MI

December 29, 2015
The "Product Overview" indicates this product is paintable; however, the "Specification 'Details'" indicate it is not. Which is correct?

Also, can this be used to fill in gaps on an osb floor where boards don't meet -- I'm not referring to the perimeter? I bought a "gathering structure" on a lake in Michigan. It's insulated and has osb covering the walls and the upstairs floor. My intention is to use the upstairs to house overnight guests. Therefore, I want to spruce up the appearance by painting the walls and floor. It will only be cooled as needed. The upstairs is not heated during the winter, although the main floor is heated to about 62 degrees.

Answer:
gaps between osb joints should be left open to allow for expansion of the panels (they do "breath") especially in humid areas or unconditioned areas.
the PL adhesive should NOT be used to fill joints... it is an adhesive for fastening systems together. I would suggest a flexible acrylic caulk if you must fill the joints to hide or to paint.

Answer:
The Loctite PL Premium is not recommended to fill gaps. Its recommended use is to bond two things together with a minimal gap between the two bonding surfaces. The adhesive is paintable.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 45 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Loctite PL premium Adhesive I was doing a project on my back patio step. One of the corners had a 45degree curve and all the stone veneers I was using was straight 6x24. The cost of purchasing 3 curved veneers was a difference of 75 dollars each. I seperated 3 veneers by cutting and seperating then positioned each stone to mimic the curve. When it looked presentable to my wife. I glued each piece together wiped the excess and let dry. Then I applied the cement on the back of each panel and attached to the surface step. The cost of a tube of loctite PL adhesive as oppose to purchasing custom made panels. Was $200.00 July 28, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Troy A gotta have can be used for many projects, great for using to stick rock to a house or to attach statues to a brick pillar and much more May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing adhesive this stuff is amazing. This Old House uses and recommends it also. I use it on anything that is not visible, but needs to be strong. It expands over night, and the excess will bulge out from the seam. I use it for cabinets and chair repairs. When dry, it will need to be trimmed back with a shrp knife, and the seam may need to be filled with a painters putty type filler. April 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by PL premium adhesive used for installing subfloor on decking along with screws for interior of house remodel. this adhesive flows better than the other brands making for faster distribution of product on the decking. It does slightly "swell" upon curing which is good on subfloor as that will "spread" the bead between deck/subfloor layers. any excess into joints worked its way up above the subfloor joint and required trimming. once this stuff sets... it is STUCK forever!!!
