I currently own two of the Lorex LNC101 security cameras which I purchased for a vacation home in NH. Overall I think they are a good value, and work reasonably well for my intended purpose. I wanted internet connectivity so I can veiw things while I am not at the residence and this camera provides that capability. The wireless capability made them easy to install and they work well with my Actiontec router. I purchased them due to the built in email alert system which they provide so I am utomatically notified when the view changes on site. I purchased one for testing and liked it well enough that I got a second for the other floor of the home.
Unfortunately my home has a modest amount of South facing glass. The Lorex manual mentions that the motion detection algorithm is sensitive to changes in ambient light, and in my case this results in a lot of false motion detections and my email in box fills up with these on a day with mixed sun and clouds if motion detection is enabled. The solution for me appears to be to just use PIR (heat sensitive detections). This seems to work well in NH, although Lorex warns it is not so reliable in warmer climates.
The unit also has a micro SD slot which I populated so I can keep permanent recordings of events when there is a motion or heat sensitive detection. One can play these SD recording back over the internet from a remote location for review which is a nice feature. It would be even nicer if one could save these recordings to a local computer via the internet, but that does not appear to be an option yet. If you want to save an SD recording you have to physically remove the SD chip and insert it in a computer to copy its video content. Curiously one can remotely record video (ie save to a local drive) from selected cameras interactively via the internet, but you can only view the SD card video interactively over the internet.
The quality of the default video is not great, but I have not taken the time to play with all the setup options available. Possibly this could be improved via configuration. Of interest the images received in email alerts seem to be clearer than the video. Possibly it buffers them a little better.
It is disappointing that the video doesn't seem to be in a more standard format. I am searching for a utility that can convert the video output from L-View to something that will generically play on a Windows system. I've seen some internet discussion about this and its supposed to be MPEG compatible. It looks like the ffmpeg project may do what I desire, but more testing is required.
On my wish list would be the ability to remotely adjust the configuration parameters. I understand this to be a potential security risk, but my router does not support port forwarding I have to be on the local network to configure the cameras. If I don't get the setup right before leaving the house I am stuck with the results until I return to the local network.
My biggest disappointment with this system is that I have had no success with Lorex technical support. They have a nice ticket system where they track your requests, but the information they provide left a lot to be desired in my case. Their L-View and L-Play programs would not run on my Windows XP machine, I got a Windows NetFramework error message that the main program could not be found. As a programmer I researched this and ran Microsoft's NetFramework verification tool. It told me my system was correctly installed. Although I reported this to Lorex their technical support told me I must have a bad NetFramework installation. Ultimately I found one needs version 2.0 of Netframework installed, and my system only had the later version 4.0 installed. After installing version 2.0 the Lorex program ran, but no one at Lorex thought to suggest this.

Got network set up but will not show video on browser because Lorex has not listed a publisher on the active x control required to view on browser. So IE security will not download add-on needed to view. Seems like a simple fix, list a publisher and it would work. Instead I wasted hours lowering and adjusting security settings to accept the active x control and still get "unable to verify publisher" .
So 3+ hours got no video but am hooked up to network and decided to say this camera sucks I'm done with it. Maybe easier with XP but windows 8 don't waste your time.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Mspenc45 These work as I would expect, and are great for observation. While they can be set up pretty easily to capture video when triggered by motion, passive infrared, or sound, they are not, in my opinion, intended as a full blown security system. A nice improvement would be to the ping software that would allow for a limited recording file size on your hard drive that would then start a new file automatically. The on board MicroSD card allows this. Other than that, these are nice, good quality photos and video, and plenty of ways to fine tune your triggers for recording and notifying you of activity.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by MIKE G. EASY TO SET UP
I had to return the first one because the night vision mode was not working properly and it kept sending constant e-mail notifications even though there was nothing going on in my house. So far the new one is working very well. It was easy to connect to my computer and my android cell phone. I would suggest reading through the manual which is online and following the easy to follow directions when you are first setting it up. I have it set up in my weekend home for motion detection. You can see live video of your home from your computer or phone. There are no fees for this.

Cons: none so far
Model Number: LNC104
Mine worked great! easily installed in 15 minutes. Setting up the camera is a little tricky but it was worth it when I started getting the alerts on my cell phone. This is my second Lorex camera and they really know what they are doing. Audio feature is a plus!!
