Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Smooth as Silk Received cutter 4 days before it was to be delivered. It was easy to set up, I ordered extra consumables and to my suprise it had some with it. Had to make a pigtail to plug into my welder plug. Fired it up and wrote my name in 1/4" plate, then used it to build a trailer for quad. I have used Thermoarc and Hobart cutters a lot and I like this one better. Now my friend has also bought one. December 12, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good, but won't totally replace gas. This is my first experience with a plasma cutter. Hooking up air was not a problem. It came with a 220 v plug and that is how I'm using it. I've used acetylene and propane cutting torches, and many years ago used arc gougers, but plasma is different. This will not completely replace my other cutting equipment. For one thing, it is not as portable since you have to have 220 v outlet. Cuts were no more slag free than other torches. Since you need to wear a full shield it is hard to see soapstone marks. On the other hand I can cut alloys that defy everything but abrasive wheels. Once you press the button, the air starts and when you strike the arc, a thin blue finger of plasma destroys whatever it touches. You can use it like a knife to carve a hunk of steel, but if too thick the flow will curve. One great advantage is the elimination for the need of preheating. This helps prevent warping thin metals or affecting adjacent areas. It comes with a modest supply of consumables (tips and orifices). I believe this will reduce my gas expense while expanding my abilities. Why not 5 stars? I guess my expectations were too high. For the price it performs admirably. I have worries about burning through the thin plastic cover for cable/hose, but it has given me no problems yet. April 16, 2015
