We purchased this ladder to replace an existing ladder. The old unit used springs for the open / close assist and part of the mechanism had failed. The Louisville Ladder Elite was very well constructed and the use of pneumatic cylinders instead of springs is a tremendous improvement. The installation was not difficult although a third person was a great help (the instructions call for two people). The only complaint (minor) is that the nuts for the 4 1/4" bolts used to attach the adjustable ladder feet were missing. Fortunately, we had some in our "spare parts" box and a trip to the store was avoided.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by gng68 Good product, love the wider steps
The instructions are clear and they say it's a two man job. Actually it should normally be a 3 man job since it's fairly heavy to be holding up over your heads and trying to put in the temporary straps. That said, I did the job by myself and I'm 68. In my case I formed the opening, then got up in the attic and pulled the ladder up into attic with a rope. Then placed two boards across the ceiling opening, and lowered the ladder assembly down onto the boards. That way the assembly was at the right surface level and I placed in shims to get it all fitted nicely. The gas shocks pull the ladder right up and the wider steps are a nice plus.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JackH Nice Product. Solid Features
I purchased & installed this product during the past weekend. I was very pleased with the sturdy features, namely the aluminum ladder and the piston pressure closure devices. Way better then the old spring closes that I had. Because I have an older home and the ceiling to floor measurement was a bit less then the 7' 9" normal height, I had to shorten the ladder length by another 1 - 1 1/2 inch or so before I could attach the adjustable feet. A hacksaw and a bit of measuring and cutting did the trick. I only needed a second person to help lift the unit into place and secure the temporary straps. The rest I was able to do myself. Solid product. Good value.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Doc1 Easy to install, good quality for the price, operates well.
This attic ladder was a good buy. It took a couple of hours to install. It is functional and the price was right. Easy to pull down when you want to access your attic.

The design concepts like the aluminum ladder and hydroneumatic pistons in place of springs should provide durability, but some of the other components the staircase is built with diminish the quality. The door and piano hinge do not, in my opinion, adequately support the weight of a person and "cargo," given the 350 lb. rating. The piano hinge and the door noticeably twist in response to a moving weight load. I am concerned that eventually the door and hinge combination could fail and be unsafe.
I love Louisville products, but think this particular product, while practical and attractive, is a bit underdesigned for its weight class and labeling. It looks better on paper as the saying goes. With an upgrade in construction by the manufacturer, this ladder can be a sure winner, even if it costs a little more.

For such a nice assembly the insulation is extremely poor. Glueing it in position at the factory is one suggestion.

The installation instructions should be changed. Using the four straps to temporarily hold the stairs in place is not a good idea. It is better to use two 1x4 boards to hold the stairs in place so they align flush with the ceiling. The insulation panels need to be glued in place, otherwise they slide and interfere when closing the stairs. Otherwise, very pleased with the stairs.
