These 4lb ones were working better and keeping me fresh to split longer periods of time. This is great for me. Been using them for years . Say years because I have separated the fiberglass handle from the metal head several times. Don't like the substitute handles. The newer husky log splitters are 1/2 pounds heavier and that extra 1/2 pound is noticeable in my swing. Love the 4 lbs so much more. Gotten used to swinging 4 lbs at age 70. The newer Husky splitter has a different angle on the metal head. Not sure if I like/dislike that. Time will tell Thinking about getting more to have as spares since the stores don't carry these any longer

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stick with a traditional wood handle. I'll start off by saying this tool does what it's supposed to do; it splits logs. The fiberglass handle holds up to the impact incurred by splitting just fine, and the head stays relatively sharp given the hybrid axe-maul design. However, the rubberized areas of the splitter are poorly thought out and designed. Within 10 rounds, the rubber beneath the head had completely split. I understand that maybe the product is intended to split rounds with a relatively small diameter, up to 8 inches or so, but even so it would require splitting the logs only at the sides, rather than the center, making the splitting process much more drawn out and time consuming. Save your $$ and invest in a wood handled maul to split your logs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY I bought this as a first time wood harvester for heating my house. I purchased my first one the fall of 2011 and had to return it after a half season of use. I got another the fall of 2012 and the same thing happened to me. The axe head came loose and fell off. I will be bringing it back to get a full refund since both axes did not last even one season. Garbage. The head is nice and does the job it is supposed to, but when it comes off the handle, it is a little tough to split wood. I would just by a replacement handle but that is not an option either since the handle is glued or fixed somehow into the head. Once it comes off, that is it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed! This was the best log splitter I could find. It is light enough that an average adult can swing it but not easy to generate the force needed to cut through a full round log on the first swing. The handle seems to be of a very high-quality. The manufacturer does not recommend striking the back of the splitter with another tool when It gets stuck in the log. Good luck with that. Not inexpensive, but a good product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good weight to power ratio for splitting word Easy to swing for me. Could be heavy for smaller or people with bad backs. Helps split the wood with some work. Good value for what I needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome and sturdy I am using it to take out tree roots--the weight is good and easy to handle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love at first chop When winter comes, the only heat we have comes from a wood-stove in the basement. So we do a lot of chopping. A *lot* of chopping. I've used wedges and sledges, a splitting maul, axes... This thing is, hands-down, the best log-splitter I've ever used. It won't do much for freshly cut green wood or wet wood, but other than that, this splitter will chop firewood faster than you would believe. It's half the weight of my maul, and does twice the work. I wouldn't use anything else.
