Rated 4 out of 5 by from Durable product that gets the job done I use this maul to split wood for my fireplace and it performed very well. I've owned it for 3 years and have split 5-6 cords of a variety of wood, primarily oak. Only after that punishment has the head seal loosened and will need to be replaced. I'm going to return it and see what happens.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not easy to use I'm a first time log splitter and after doing some research, I've decided to try this one out. When you strike, you will feel it's impact throughout your upper body and it is not a pleasant feeling—gave me a headache first and the second time I tried it. I wasn't able to split any large logs over 16" in diameter. I've returned it and bought a Fiskars X25 splitting axe and it's literally night and day difference. It splits like butter with ease. It's almost too easy I must say I'm a 5'10" 160 lbs athletic person and unless you are over 200 lbs and want to swing a dull axe for a workout...get Fiskars!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed with this product. I purchased this maul after reading the reviews, thinking that it would help me split ash and maple. I had been using a regular axe, which performed very well on wood as large as 3 ft. in diameter. I would simply peel off the edges. When I tried to use this maul on the ash, I first hit it in the center. The maul bounced up, without splitting the wood. I tried again several times around the edges and got the same result. I used my axe and split it with ease. The problem, it seems to me, is that the blade is so broad, that it is hard for it to penetrate the wood. I am 6'3" and weigh 220 lbs., and have been using axes and mauls to split wood for over 50 years, since I was a kid. For me, this one takes way too much effort with poor results.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good tool, make sure you understand blade Exactly as advertised. Heavy head makes splitting wood very easy. However, know that this is not as sharp as a true axe, so if you are trying to chop hard wood or stumps, you'll have your work cut out. This is made to split, not cut. I used it to remove a stump and it worked fine. In hindsight though, an axe would have been preferable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good splitting maul for the Money. This is a SPLITTING Maul, and NOT an AXE. This maul is well constructed, and for the price, it will be hard to beat. Unless you find one at a Yard Sale.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good price on Fiberglass handle Splitting Maul This was such a great deal I think it must have been a closeout or just a mistake. I bought 2 of these as they were only $20 compared to $40 at my local hardware store. I go through one wooden handled maul a year as I split a moderate amount to of wood, and miss sometimes. The fiberglass handle should be more robust (although I have yet to use it).
