Customer Questions & Answers

Do these carry a warranty against the head coming off? I bought one and the head is coming off.

Asked by: Chuck
Hi Chuck, for this Splitting Maul the Manufacturer Warranty is "To be free from manufacturing defects." This information is reflected in the ‘Product Specifications' portion of the product page. Hopefully that helps! We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Product - Not So Durable This maul makes splitting wood quick and easy (with the added benefit of giving you a good workout). However, it's not meant for the amount of wood I've been chopping lately, and after 3x 8 hour days of splitting, it gave up and the head came off. This would probably be better for a seasonal wood cutter, not a constant one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for price. I'm a HUGE review guy. I will read hours of reviews before deciding on something I am going to purchase. Right now I am looking for an axe to buy, and I saw my maul on here. The stars rating is really low, so I figured I would throw my 2 cents in. From what I have learned from reading reviews On everything, 9 out of 10 times, reviews are negative. Not because people have negative attitudes or anything, lol.... majority of the time, if you purchase something and use it and it's great, you don't even think about writing a positive review, you just use it and are satisfied and move on. When you have a bad experience, then you feel the need to share your experience. Me personally, I bought this maul about 6 years ago, and it has been a work horse ever sinse. It has cut tons of fire wood, broke concrete, drove poles, and more. I have never had any issues out of it, and would purchase another in a heart beat. I have missed many of logs and completely tore the rubber under the head on top of handle off..... it has never cracked or anything, and I have never had to fix or "rig" anything to make it work. Blade sharpens easy and holds a great edge for a cheap maul. If you looking for the average man tool, this should do it. There are always lemons out there and defects in certain tools, it just happens. As far as mine, it is great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of Junk This maul felt nice and looked sturdy, it broke on less than a 1/2 cord of hardwood.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fiberglass handle doesn't seem to be durable When it comes to 8 lb mauls, there really isn't much to write, is there? All are going to have a steel head and the only thing you're going to worry about is whether that head comes off the handle. I'm not a lumberjack. I might pick the thing up maybe 6 times a year if I'm lucky. Well I had some trees cut down and told the guy to leave the wood in the back as I would split it. Mind you, I probably haven't picked the maul up in a year. I was splitting mostly maple. By the time I got to the third piece of wood, the handle was breaking inside the head. One more swing and the handle broke. The head was now caught in the wood, so I smashed it through the wood with a sledgehammer. I thought that by going with a fiberglass handle, I wouldn't have to worry about rot and other issues wood has to deal with. Considering how infrequently I use it, I'm not happy with the results. Now I have to go find a replacement handle. I think I'll get a wood one!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor quality and Home Depot stores don't know they have it. Took it back to my local HD store they say they don't carry it, very poor design, and stupid to say don't strike it with another tool, can't get it loose without., put a wood handle on it and it might be a better deal. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not happy...... Just like the other reviews, I bought thinking being fiberglass it would last a lifetime as I only use this to split 12" logs. Only lasted 1 year, head broke off like others, actual fiberglass is much thinner than you think, outer of handle is pvc. To bad cause I love the feel of the handle.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Handle failed like all the others on market I've owned this maul 1 year, HomeDepot charged me heavily at the time, and I wrongly assumed it was built to last. The glue/epoxy they used to fasten the handle to the head as crumbled out and the head falls off. I would not recommend.
