Customer Questions & Answers

Does this wheel do metric measurement?

I am a cross country coach who needs to measure out different metric distances for my team. I need an official quote from Home Depot to submit to mt school district.
Asked by: Darin
No, it measures in feet and inches, but just use the internet to get a conversion to metric.

Is there any way to calibrate, mine gains 4 inches in 100 feet?

Asked by: Jim
While not meant to be accurate as the manufacturer noted, measurements are based on the wheel circumference. You could theoretically wrap something around the wheel (maybe fabric tape) to increase the circumference.

This was a relatively inexpensive measurement wheel, and it works just fine on hard surfaces (where it can easily keep traction). I was also pleased that the handle was long enough for someone 6'6" to comfortably use this. The counter (see picture) was easy to read and easy to re-set. I recommend this measuring wheel because it is a good value in comparison to other measuring wheels with more features you just may not need.

Indoors it also did not work well on long runs due to the two wheel design. The two wheel design made it accurate on short runs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy to use, accurate, convenient, manageable. Only one flaw. The adjustable arm is a great feature. You can lower the arm to make the whole wheel about 1.5 feet tall, so it doesn't take up much space in your car. The measurements that are produced are pretty accurate. I really like the fact that it has two wheels because you don't have to balance it as you are measuring like you do with the one-wheel measuring wheels. I also like the fact that the wheel doesn't spin out of control when you lift it off the ground. It might add a couple of inches if you lift it off the ground accidentally, but it is definitely better than the one-wheel measuring wheels I have used in the past that will add multiple feet if you lift it off the ground. The measurement reset button is easily accessible by your foot making multiple measurements quick and easy. The one downside I have noticed is that the wheels are attached to the axle with just one tiny screw. The screws that hold the wheels on will come loose pretty frequently, so you have to keep a small screw driver around to tighten them on a regular basis. If you are taking a long measurement, the wheel will likely fall off and you will lose the tiny screw in the dirt/grass. The measuring wheel works fine with just one wheel until you can go buy a replacement screw. It would be nice if the wheels didn't come off so easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Accurate, easy-to-use measuring device I bought this measuring wheel mainly for measuring my lawn for calculating needed product rates, such as fertilizers. Obviously, accuracy is less important for this application, but I still like to know that my measuring devices are accurate. So, I did a few tests to check it's accuracy, especially after reading other reviews of disappointed purchasers of this product. I did 10 tests of the roughly 29 foot width of my driveway. Before performing the tests, I placed hard stops at both start and stop locations to ensure that I was measuring the same (almost exact) span of driveway each time. In 5 of the test runs I came up with 28.65', 3 times it read 28.60', and 2 times it was 28.70'. Based on my calculations, I saw a roughly .17% margin of error. Stated another way, the most it was off was .6 inches over a 29 ft distance. It's quite possible that the variances came from slight drift of the wheel while placing it at the starting position, or even hitting a small piece of mulch on the driveway could make the wheel 'jump' slightly enough to make the reading off by a half inch. In any case, it would certainly suffice for measuring just about anything where one would be using a measuring wheel rather than another device capable of greater precision.
