Answer:
Just make sure wherever it is is rated for a 4-way (if it's the middle dimmer) or 3-way (if they are going on the outsides).

Following the advice of the lights sales person at Home Depot, we bought 8 of these switches. We connected each one to a set of 6 lights and they make a very loud buzzing sound. Please advise.

We are sorry to hear about your issue with these dimmers. The most common issue that would cause this dimmer to buzz would be either it being overloaded, or if it was used with certain LEDs. Since it is only a set of 6 lights, it sounds like it could be the latter. An issue with dimming LEDs is that they are currently all being made differently, and so the performance will vary greatly from one to the next. Some may have a limited dimming range, some may make an audible noise (or make the dimmer give our an audible noise), and some may need a specific type of dimmer to work at all. Because they are all different, we would not be able to recommend a dimmer that would not have a buzz or hum when used with these LEDs. It may be worthwhile to check in with the LED manufacturer to see if they have tested and can recommend a dimmer that will provide a better performance. Hope this helps and feel free to contact our 24/7 Support line on more information on dimming LEDs or to speak about your specific application. Read Less

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works very well with LED lights The dimmer was very easy to install. Works very well with LED lights. No flickering when lights are dimmed. May 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by LED Dimmer Switch Worked as described. Easy to install. Was what I was looking for to replace a broken switch.. November 15, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by LED dimmer Recently replaced my old recessed incandescent lamps with LED and they buzzed because apparently the dimmers were not rated for LED lights. I purchase three of these claiming to be LED dimmers and to reduce the buzz from the lamps. These did not make any difference in the buzz after spending $30 x 3! Too bad I threw away the old ones. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solid product works well I purchased two Lutron LED-compatible dimmers to replace a switch and a dimmer that were not LED-compatible. This kind of conversion is often necessary when converting lighting to LEDs. They work quire well. The only "con" is that if you wish to enter the world of home automation, you might instead wish to consider something like the Insteon SwitchLinc dimmer product. However, that excellent Insteon product costs approximately twice as much. I have a hybrid setup, using Insteon for the lights and appliance switches that I wish to automate, and Lutron dimmers or conventional switches for those that I don't December 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by look nice work great my electrican had a easy time to install. they look nice and work great. August 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Dimmers I have installed over 100 of these dimmers with no problems. I love the fact that they are single pole/3-way switches April 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works well. Easy to install. This dimmer works very well for my dining room chandelier. I currently have a mix of LED, CFL, and traditional incandecent bulbs in it, for comparison. This dimmer smoothly dims all of them. The large paddle is easy to hit with your elbow while carrying dishes. Neigther the dimmer nor the bulbs produce any buzzing noise. It's completely silent while operating. Installation was very easy. They included all neccessary parts and clear instructions with good drawings. This dimmer does not require a neutral connection, so it can be wired on a switch leg. I had no trouble fitting it into my existing, 1950s, small wall box. The included wall plate is a standard size, and if desired, can be easily replaced with one that matches your decor. My only complaints are minor. it seems a little pricy. They don't explain why this dimmer is better for CFL and LED than normal dimmers. It makes a clicking noise when switched on or off. It's not objectionable, nor worrisome. I would just have preferred it to be silent. January 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Finally LED Dimmers that match. I special ordered 4 of these for my new house with multiple types of can LED lights and they match the fan control swiches. They all arrived within 1 business day and work perfectly. Yes you have to remove the heat sinks on the sides for multi gang boxes. LED Lights use much less power than standard bulbs so the wattage is usually not a problem. Don't forget to adgust the minimum diming control before the cover plate is installed or LED lights Will Not nurn on if you dim them too much. When I needed more they are no longer available online at HomeDepot. March 8, 2013
