Will this dimmer work with LED lights?

Asked by: Ed
usually the manufacturer of the lights themselves will have a list of suggested Dimmers. if you get the wrong one it could cause buzzing of the light fixtures and inconsistent dimming function. check the light fixture box, instructions, or go online and look up the part number to see if there is a recommended dimmer for your fixture

do you need one or two switches?

when you have two three way switches and you want to change over to a dimmer, do you need two dimmers or only one?
Asked by: lee
it would depend on the total wattage you're drawing if you put all three circuit through this switch. add up the wattage draw to make sure it doesn't exceed the 600 watts. If not you should be ok. usually the manufacturer of the lights themselves will have a list of suggested Dimmers. if you get the wrong one it could cause buzzing of the light fixtures and inconsistent dimming function. check the light fixture box, instructions, or go online and look up the part number to see if there is a recommended dimmer for your fixture

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Diva and Maetro Not Suitable for Low Wattage LED I generally like Lutron dimmers but when I started to convert to LEDs in our house then I started to notice issues. I was using Lutron Maestro almost exclusively but when I switched to LEDs i noticed that some 3-inch recessed lights would blink even when the dimmer was supposed to be off. On a recent project where I added 6-WAC Lighting WL-LED100-C-WT to light a stairway the lights did not even go out at all when the dimmer was turned all the way down. So, i researched the WAC Lighting recommendations and they suggested Lutron Diva. I thought this might be even a better solution since besides the dimmer function it also included a paddle switch that "must shut the voltage completely off." I was surprised that even with the paddle switch off the switch still passed 88 u-Amps of current which keeps the 6-LED lamps lit. See the pictures for proof. These pictures were taken with the switch in the OFF position.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice and sleek Great product. I like that it has a sleek design, but you still adjust the brightness in a hurry, since it has a manual lever—opposed to one of those you have to tap many times to increase/decrease brightness. I controlled 7 LEDs can lights with it and it went from very bright to very dim, very quickly. One word of warning: it's bulkier than a simple light switch. It's a tricky to fit in my box because I already had too many wires in there.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No maximum briightness While this unit dims OK, it will not allow full voltage output and thus not full brightness. That's the way it gets its "eco" savings but the label does not warn you about this. In short, it works fine but only if you do not need the full original brightness of the lamp(s). I had to replace my 60 watt bulbs with 75's to get enough light when not dimmed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Switch platic broke after 6-7 years The electronics in the Lutron switches work reliably, but the molded plastic pieces are poorly designed and break far too early in the switches life. I have seen this in other Lutron dimmer switches and it is sad that a 20+ dollar switch is breaking because of a cheap plastic part that cost less that 5 cents to make and would not cost anymore to make to make the part stronger. Now I just avoid anything Lutron, even if the alternative costs twice as much.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well but buzzes a bit Bought this switch as recommended by manufacturer of a LED can light fixture and found that it still buzzes a bit no matter what the dimmer is set at. Be sure to check the manufacturer's recommendation for dimmer switch for LED applications.
