LED Lamp & Dimmer compatibility

This question is from Maestro 150-Watt Single-Pole/3-Way/Multi-Location Digital CFL-LED Dimmer - White

I am planning to replace a number of incandescent BR30 lamps in my existing recessed cans with Osram LED/LD6/900/830/FL120/FL retrofit ULTRA Disk retrofit lamps. I use Lutron Maestro Dimmers everywhere but mine won't work properly with these lamps. I note that the new Maestro dimmers claim to be compatible with LED lamps. Some circuits will have just two LED lamps for a total of 26 W and others will have 6 lamps for a total of 78 W. Will these dimmers work in my application?

Yup, when I installed my new LED lights, I udes the old incandescent Maestro dimmer. Sure acted flakey. Switched out to the new LED Maestro dimmer; a much better response.
Should be good to go whether its 2 lamps or 6.

Answer:
Unfortunately, it does not appear Lutron has done any testing on this particular fixture at this time so we would be unable to guarantee compatibility with the Maestro MACL-153M. Without testing on our end, your best option would be to confirm with Sylvania that these fixtures are labeled as dimmable and consult their approved list of dimmers to be used with them.

I have 5 LED 21 W bulbs (150 W equivalent) in kitchen and would like to install dimmer so that I can increase or decrease the amount of light. At the same time I want to understand if using dimmer at lower setting will reduce overall electricity consumption compared to using it at full setting,

Answer:
Yes, it will reduce consumption while on a lower setting. It should be the same consumption as a regular switch while on highest setting, but will lower consumption according to the setting you have it on

Answer:
Yes, dimming the lights will save some electricity.
Not much in your case though... you already have LED lights ... which use almost nothing... dimming these from almost nothing to a bit less almost nothing won't save you much money.

Answer:
Absolutely. Using a Lutron dimmer on your light will help save energy. With LEDs you will reduce your energy consumption roughly at a 1:1 ratio. In other words, keeping your lights on at about 50% will result in a ~50% energy savings.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great when it works! There really isn't anything to compare to these switches - the soft dimming on and off features are great, and the true multi-location design allows you to actually control the brightness of the lights from multiple switches. However, I have purchased maybe 8 of these over time and twice I have received one that just flat out didn't work. One of them immediately snap-crackle-popped when I flipped the breaker, and the most recent one just did nothing. Fortunately my local HD store is only a few minutes away and always has plenty in stock. Outside of the random failures, I love these switches. They certainly aren't cheap, but they do look and function nice. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Dimmer Ever! Easy Installation and these work great with pretty much any bulb which having that flexibility is incredible as more bulb types become available in LED. We have these in our bathrooms and dual switches in our kitchen for about 4 months now with no issues. The green LED indicator is nice so with one quick glance you can tell whether the lights are fully on or partially dimmed. I see Lutron also makes a ceiling fan/light remote control module for about $54 that I will soon be experimenting with to replace the multitude of controllers we currently have with their annoyingly small buttons. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice dimmer Works great with 4 retrofit LED cans. Dims to about 10% July 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good dimmer I like the dimmer, only it doesn't dim all the way down. Package didn't say it would take a certain kind of led light bulbs. The ones we are using now only dim about half the way. Still looking for the right bulbs. You would think Home Depot would carry the right bulb for item they are selling. Hope to find some soon so I can see full usage. May 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Maestro 150-Watt Single-Pole/3-Way/Multi-Location Digital CFL-LED Dimmer Maestro 150-Watt Single-Pole/3-Way dimmer was really easy to install. We would buy it again and could recommend it to friends and neighbors. May 10, 2016

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Does not work and customer support is not helpful I bought a couple of these to use with the Luminus BR30 LED. Both switches have ghosting and flickering issues when the switch turns off. I called customer support and all I got was they're sending me a list of products that compatible with their switch. Hello!!! It's just LED light, the switch should works for all of them, how hard is to design a switch that either turns the current on or off??? April 6, 2016
