LED Compatibility

Is this line of Lutron dimmers compatible with Lithonia integrated LED ceiling lights?
Asked by: Peleus
Some LEDs are dimmable some are not. Look for "Dimmable" on the box the bulbs come in.

I am replacing standard bulbs with dimmable LEDs current setup has one dimmer and 2 other non dimming switches. Have the multiu-location lutron LED dimmer but the instructions indicate a companion dimmer is required in the other locations. No desire to dim from any other than the one location. Do I have to use dimmers in the other locations?
Asked by: Idrivethebru
if you don't add companion dimmers, you just will not be able to control the level it is at from the other locations. It will resume where it is set on the installed dimmer. The companion dimmers do not have the lights to show what the level the light is set to, but will allow you to change it.

when using as 3 way does switch operate so that up is always on and down always off.

Asked by: hoodlum
If you install this dimmer it has a button for on and off, and the another toggle button to control the level of light, but the lowest level is not off, it is just dim. The other switch will not have control of the level, but would be on and off to where it is set on the dimmer. You can control the level if you install the companion dimmer.

What is the difference between the MACL-153MR-WH and MACL-153MH-WH?

The MACL-153MR-WR and MACL-153MH-WH dimmers look identical, including the price. Why two different product numbers?
Asked by: Ericprk
jackofallmasterof1 is not correct. They are both digital, and are exactly the same. One is in plastic clamshell and the other in cardboard.

However it isn't useable for multiple locations without the Maestro Companion which isn't available at my store. I had to research it and order it on line. Also as an Electrical Professional I find the drawing provided by Leviton is inadequate and confusing because it only covers one case where the power and fixture leads enter the two switch boxes . There are other wiring configurations commonly used in Three Way and Four-Way switching configurations, but not covered in the instructions. Fortunately, I was able to develop a workable "working drawing" suitable for my installation. A lay person, I.E. Home Depot customer, would find the installation impossible with the drawings provided and the poor stocking of the Maestro Companion Dimmer. There is no way I can provide a relevant Photo of the contents of the switch boxes or the terminal and splice connections.

I bought this to replace another Lutron Maesto Dimmer (MIR-600THW-WH), the one with Infrared remote control because the old dimmer randomly caused the lights to flicker after I replaced all my old incandescent recessed light bulbs with LEDs (Feit BPCEPAR30/930/LED/2). Things are now problem free for almost a month. The installation was easy as I used the push-in electrical connectors directly on the back., instead of the screw-on connectors on the side. I'll let other people debate the pros/cons of push-in vs screw-on electrical connectors. The installation kit included an extra connecting wire and 3 twist caps, that I did not need as I just reused everything that was previously there. All said an done in 15 minutes total.

Very pleased with the operation of this dimmer switch and the two Lutron companion switches in one of my 4-way circuits--emphasis on companion switches--that provide dimming function at all locations. I don't know if the reason is the non-mechanical switching circuitry in these switches, but our kitchen LED lights no longer blink when the dishwasher cycles through from wash to drain to rinse. Nor do I see any flickering of the LEDs when the lights are dimmed as I did notice when we had older style dimmer switches. When I called Lutron's 24/7 phone number one evening about the companion switches, a very knowledgeable employee quickly answered and clearly addressed all my questions and pointed out in one of their manuals, the exact circuit I trying to wire. This is a modern switch for modern lighting.

No apparent wattage minimum, worked even on testing one 9W light. 3-way with companion MA-R & everything functions properly. The two separate switches are $50, or there is a companion kit that saves you the trouble of picking out the correct compatible units, but it's $54 for some reason.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Check for Bulb Compatibility Just an FYI, the three pack doesn't save any money according to the online pricing but it offers buying convenience. You do save money with the six pack on the other hand. Lutron has a very extensive compatibility list of LED and CFL bulbs that have been tested so that you won't end up with buzzing or flickering. If your bulb isn't on the list you may actually need a different type of technology to avoid those issues. Lutron offers a slightly more expensive dimmer for those situations. It's a matter of bulb technology and not a problem with the dimmer. The delayed off feature is great to keep you from stumbling over furniture or pets as you leave a room where the switch is at the door or where the next room is dark as well. The small LEDs that indicate the level of dimming are not so bright as to be annoying. I have had these dimmers installed in some parts of my home for more than 15 years and they are reliable, quiet and attractive.

Two work, third one does not. All three installations are exactly the same with only 2 wires. Only two wires in the wall and the instructions don't tell which terminal on the dimmer is power in and power out. Will have to call the manufacturer to figure out why it's not working.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these dimmers! Back in 1997, we did a major remodel and our contractor installed similar dimmers. They were the newest dimmers back then and I love the tap feature. We bought our new house in 2011 and only one of the dimmers is the tap type. Fast forward six years and I just installed my new Maestro dimmers. These dimmers are three way - you control the light from two locations. They are designed to be used with LED or CFL lights. Or you can use regular incandescent bulbs as well. They are rated at 150 watts - should be plenty for residential use. Operation: The light strength is adjusted by the main switch panel. The switch can have a delay off - a neat feature, which allows you to leave the room with the light still on. There's also a tap function which allows the light to be turned on or off. This is a very modern dimmer. Being able to use newer LED bulb is very important, since the future light will be LED's. I highly recommend these dimmers. They're the best out there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clean looking full range dimmer I recently installed these dimmers all through my house. They're a bit on the pricier side but you can't compare the looks vs the ones with the clunky slide knobs. These by far look the best, and give the best range of control on light output. I will say, the range of dimming varies with the type of bulbs you are using. Some LEDs will dim more or less than others. - In my dining room I have incandescents in a chandelier and they go from full brightness all the way down to near candlelight (first part of video below) - In my bedrooms I have retrofit LED recessed lighting and they get very bright, but only dim down to say 25% (2nd part of video below) - In my kitchen I have LED flood bulbs (regular flood bulbs, not retrofit can light) and those went from full brightness all the way down to barely visible (not in video) All said, no complaints. They're great to have in the morning, when full brightness isn't so easy on the eyes, and also at night when you're winding down but still want to be able to see. Very happy with them and expect years of use.
