Product Overview

The Maestro Countdown Timer helps you save money and energy by automatically turning off the lights and fans after a preset time. Using the Maestro Countdown Timer on bathroom exhaust fans can reduce the chance of a costly mold problem, and timers attached to garage lights can add an extra layer of safety when you return home at night. Use the large tap switch to turn the timer on and off, and use the rocker on the side to set the timer to the desired time-out option, anywhere from 5-60 minutes. Softly lit orange LEDs indicate the time remaining before turn-off. Save energy by using the Maestro Countdown Timer in closets, attics, basements, and other low-traffic areas to ensure the light is never left on for a long time. Coordinating Claro wallplates and accessories sold separately.

  • For use with incandescent and halogen bulbs only

Customer Questions & Answers

is this timer suitable for a 3 way switch arrangement controlling ceiling lights?

Would i install 1 or 2 of these to work with both wall switches?
Asked by: Mike
Check out the product installation instructions here: http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/03092903B.pdf Per the instructions above: install one of these timers on the load side and swap out the other 3 way for an Accessory Switch. I've never used an Accessory Switch so I'm not sure how they are different than a standard 3 way switch.

I don't want my kid to be able to turn on our heater without selecting a time. Will they be able to run it indefinitely or is there always a countdown

Asked by: HThru
The time can be overridden by tapping it twice, which has a green indicator light at the top of the row of orange lights.

Can this switch be used to control flourescent or LED lamps, and if so, how many watts total?

I would like to use this switch to control overhead lighting in a garage so the lights don't get left on indefinitely after leaving the garage. Product information sheet says switch won't work with fluorescent fixtures but will control magnetic low voltage loads. I'm confused.
Asked by: Jerry
Yes, it can be used to switch fluorescent lamp loads. 3 amps minimum, 4 amps with one side removed, 5 amps with two amps removed. Lamp wattage must be at least 5W. See the installation instructions for details: http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/03092903B.pdf To get determine steady state current draw of a lamp, divide watts by line voltage. For example, a 32W fluorescent tube using 120 volts AC would draw 0.27 amps. Note that a fluorescent fixture with a ballast -- especially a magnetic ballast -- will use slightly more current than the sum of the lamp current, the additional current is due to ballast loss. Check the specifications of the ballast to determine total current draw for a fixture with a discrete ballast. For a garage application, I used a Lutron motion sensor switch with a delayed shutdown to control 3 ceiling mounted fluorescent fixtures with 2 T8 lamps each. The motion sensor needs to "see" the garage door opening but my install has been running fine for 3 years without issue. Turns on when the garage door begins to move after hitting the garage door opener button.

Maestro 5 Amp In-Wall Digital Timer - Greenbriar is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 43.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Has one issue. I returned the unit after I read the instructions in the box. The timer is designed to power "blink" when there is a minute left. If I was only running lights through the unit that would be fine, but I also wanted to run electronics and I didn't want everything taking that kind of on/off/on bounce. I saw no way to change that setting. Other than that, if you want a glossy "black" timer it's one of your few choices. I ended up getting another brand and it's bright white, not very attractive.

Deceptive packaging. while this site shows that the switch will not work with fluorescent lights, the packaging does not. So i installed two of them. One actually works with a 2 bulb t8 fluorescent light. I completely installed and re-installed the second switch twice (thinking that is miswired it the first time) before calling the tech support line and being informed that it doesn't work with fluorescent lights. Very aggravating at best.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Digital timer - brown We bought 3 of these for bathroom fans. They work well and were easy to hook up. Unfortunately we had already put brown outlets and covers in one bathroom so we had to buy one in brown. It was over two times as expensive for the color vs white. I felt this was an excessive up charge.

It matches my existing Lutron dimmers and I love the ability to set a default time but easily override it by pressing the switch twice. I don't know if it exists but a 3-way version would be great.

It does not require a neutral (white) wire when you wire it up. I purchased this timer for my bathroom fan. I had installed a 100 CFM Delta Whisper quiet fan, quiet and low power consumption. When I connected this timer to the fan, it started up, then slowed down, then cycled fast and slow every second or two. I checked the directions again, and found an issue in the troubleshooting section - this timer needs to be connected to a fan that draws at least .3 amp or 40 watts. I removed the timer and connected it to a different, larger fan in another bathroom. Here it works OK. Strangely, as it reaches the end of it's time interval, the fan stops, then runs for about 10 more seconds, then shuts off. The unusual operation and wiring arrangement of this timer leaves me a little uncomfortable. We'll see how long it lasts. I think the outside packaging should indicate that this timer needs a 40 watt load to function so the customer knows if it will work.

I like that they show how much time is left, and the faster flashing at the one minute mark. The only thing that concerns me is whether visitors will know they are fan switches – leaving me to wonder if I should label them as such.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from To high minimum load. Good product, but keep in mind, that it needs some minimum load to operate properly. If You load it with not enough mA, like low power exhaust vent with it's load characteristics, it won't work properly.
