Customer Questions & Answers

Can I temporarily override my default settings to manually leave on my light without removing the cover plate?

I want the switch set to its default settings but on occasion I want the unit to stay on for a long period so it appears I am home. Without removing the cover plate can I set the light so it will stay turned on until I manually turn it off?
Asked by: Allie
Yes, just push the button above the sensor but they will shut off when you leave. I generally find 5 minutes to be long enough for most locations since these respond instantly when going back on again. Cooper's are slower but they can be wired with a motion sensor at two locations not just one being a motion sensor.

Can both the newly installed sensing switch and the other stander switch works together?

I just newly installed these device in my washing room to replace one of the two stander single pole three way switch, this only works when the other stander switch is in on position, is this normal or I mess up some thing?
Asked by: Bob
This product can work with a standard mechanical switch but the mechanical switch needs to be rewired in order to function properly. For help with the wiring, I would encourage you to reach out to Lutron's 24/7 tech support at 1-844-588-7661 where a representative would be happy to assist you.

Will this work with a dimmer?

I have a stair case with a dimmer at the bottom connected to same lights as a non dimmer upstairs. I want to motion sense up, but not down (not at dimmer) so I have a lutron non motion dimmer at bottom and a 600w lutron motion sensing non dimmer at the top...can't seem to get the motion sensor working on it. It's turns them on off, but not automatically and can't seem to program it. When I try it blinks three times fast, can't figure out what that means?
Asked by: Scott
This product is not compatible with a dimmer. For other options to fit your application I would recommend reaching out to Lutron's 24/7 tech support line at 1-844-588-7661.

Does this work with input Supply 220 V, 50 HZ.

Wish to use this Occupancy Sensor Switch in India where the Power source is 220 V, 50 hz. Do guide me with changes required.
Asked by: Keshav
It is not rated for loads other then 120V. You need the MS-OPS6 not the MS-OPS5 fro 220V but even the MS-OPS6 switch will not handle fan loads other then at 120V. The MS-OPS6 is a nice switch that also dims as well and has a mode where you can have it stay off until you leave the room and come back again and then it will turn on again. This is useful for room where you want it to remain dark if you manually turn it off. I have a MS-OPS6 for my kitchen lights (4 years old, so far) and a remote controlled unit in the family room.

I want motion switches at the top of the stairs and bottom ? which ones do I buy, also needs to detect my 15 month son crawling up the or down stairs?

Asked by: jj0924
Cooper 6107 or the newer replacement model VS310U will work. None of the Lutron allow two sensors on the same circuit.

Does this switch work in cold weather in an unheated garage?

I bought one of these switches from Home Depot and was going to install it. But then I read on the spec sheet that it is only rated down to 32 degrees. I plan to install in my unheated garage where 20 degrees is common in winter with a rare 10 or even zero degree temperature possible. Has anyone used this switch in an environment like this? I am guessing that the manufacturer never tested it below 32 degrees but if others are doing this and it works OK for them, I'm willing to try it.
Asked by: Torquer
I used these switches in my attached garage in Washington state and they worked all the time even when we had a harsh winter with ice everywhere but it is rare to get extremely cold temperatures there. probably best if you ask the manufacturer about your specific circumstances.

How far does it sense motion?

I'd like to purchase this occupancy sensor switch for my garage, but the place I'd install it would be about 20 feet from a door where we usually enter the garage. So would this switch detect motion from 20 feet away? What's the max distance that it'll detect motion from? Thanks!
Asked by: Studly
This sensor’s coverage will be able to sense motion within a radius of 30’ from the unit.

Maestro 5-Amp Single Pole/3-Way Occupancy Sensing Switch - Taupe is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY Installation if done per instructions will not work. Instructions are out dated and diagrams pourly illustrated. When speaking with Lutron tech support they even stat that the instructions are not clearly written and do not accuratly illustrate how to properly wire switch. Nor do they say on the box or in instructions that YOU CAN NOT USE THE SENSORED SWITCH WITH A LIGHTED MECHANICAL SWITCH ON THE OTHER END DUE TO ITS NEED FOR BEING CONSTANTLY LIVE TO POWER LIGHT IN SWITCH. Lutron tech even said this is a big issue they jave to deal with being incorrect and only found in their support info not in product instructions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Find If you have rental property or if you live with someone that never turns the bathroom vent fan on or off, this product is for you. I installed one at a friends house after walking into his apartment to find the bathroom vent fan had been on all day. It comes preset to turn off after 30 minutes of run time, either from you turning on or from it sensing moisture and turning itself on. You can change the run time and the moisture sensor also. I purchased a second one and installed in a rental property. Great product.

Very sensitive and turns on lights even though it is partially blocked from view. The switch was used to control 8 4' flouresent fixtures in a locker room. This has really helped to control our utility costs and turn off the lights when the room is unoccupied. Highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well I put this switch in my garage and basement, the places where my kids always forget to shut off the lights. The switch works just fine, but the installation instructions were not the best. I finally figured out, but it took longer than it should.

Installed this in a galley style utility room which is also a hallway to the garage. Step through either doorway and the light comes on. Especially nice to not have to fumble for a light switch with your hands full. Very cool.
