Will this work with a dimmer?

This question is from Maestro 5-Amp Single-Pole/3-Way Occupancy Sensing Switch - White

I have a stair case with a dimmer at the bottom connected to same lights as a non dimmer upstairs. I want to motion sense up, but not down (not at dimmer) so I have a lutron non motion dimmer at bottom and a 600w lutron motion sensing non dimmer at the top...can't seem to get the motion sensor working on it. It's turns them on off, but not automatically and can't seem to program it. When I try it blinks three times fast, can't figure out what that means?

Does this switch work in cold weather in an unheated garage?

I bought one of these switches from Home Depot and was going to install it. But then I read on the spec sheet that it is only rated down to 32 degrees. I plan to install in my unheated garage where 20 degrees is common in winter with a rare 10 or even zero degree temperature possible.

Has anyone used this switch in an environment like this? I am guessing that the manufacturer never tested it below 32 degrees but if others are doing this and it works OK for them, I'm willing to try it.

I used these switches in my attached garage in Washington state and they worked all the time even when we had a harsh winter with ice everywhere but it is rare to get extremely cold temperatures there. probably best if you ask the manufacturer about your specific circumstances.

Answer:
This product can work with a standard mechanical switch but the mechanical switch needs to be rewired in order to function properly. For help with the wiring, I would encourage you to reach out to Lutron's 24/7 tech support at 1-844-588-7661 where a representative would be happy to assist you.

I have a pair of long staircases connected by a landing in my home. Can I use two of these devices so that when I am at the top of the first staircase and begin to descend, the lights would automatically go on, and remain on (for at least several minutes) or until I pass the second device at the bottom of the second staircase at which point, the lights would go off? Of course, I'd also like it to work similarly when I would ascend the stairs. Would I need to also install two standard 3-way switches?

I was informed that you cannot put two of these occupancy sensors on the same circuit, and the "other" switch would have to be a special switch. There is an option made by Watt Stopper where you have a low voltage circuit that can have more than one occupancy sensor turn on a light. We use them at each end of long warehouse aisles. Maybe there is something else out there that I don't know about. My only other suggestion if you want to use the Maestro products would be to have two light circuits, two sets of lights, with a sensor at the top for one set and a sensor at the bottom for the other set. Maestro 5-Amp Single Pole/3-Way Occupancy Sensing Switch - Taupe is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 67.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY Installation if done per instructions will not work. Instructions are out dated and diagrams pourly illustrated. When speaking with Lutron tech support they even stat that the instructions are not clearly written and do not accuratly illustrate how to properly wire switch. Nor do they say on the box or in instructions that YOU CAN NOT USE THE SENSORED SWITCH WITH A LIGHTED MECHANICAL SWITCH ON THE OTHER END DUE TO ITS NEED FOR BEING CONSTANTLY LIVE TO POWER LIGHT IN SWITCH. Lutron tech even said this is a big issue they jave to deal with being incorrect and only found in their support info not in product instructions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Find If you have rental property or if you live with someone that never turns the bathroom vent fan on or off, this product is for you. I installed one at a friends house after walking into his apartment to find the bathroom vent fan had been on all day. It comes preset to turn off after 30 minutes of run time, either from you turning on or from it sensing moisture and turning itself on. You can change the run time and the moisture sensor also. I purchased a second one and installed in a rental property. Great product.

Very sensitive and turns on lights even though it is partially blocked from view. The switch was used to control 8 4' flouresent fixtures in a locker room. This has really helped to control our utility costs and turn off the lights when the room is unoccupied. Highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well I put this switch in my garage and basement, the places where my kids always forget to shut off the lights. The switch works just fine, but the installation instructions were not the best. I finally figured out, but it took longer than it should.

Installed this in a galley style utility room which is also a hallway to the garage. Step through either doorway and the light comes on. Especially nice to not have to fumble for a light switch with your hands full. Very cool.
