This Lutron switch is pretty cool. The lights fade off. The dimming works great. Nice to have the ambience.

The dimmer works fine..for me. Some people find it too complicated.
I am confused about why home depot would stock a 3 way dimmer and not it's mating dimmer. I had to wait way too long to complete the install.

This switch is easy to install and functionality is great. Don't get confused by the claim that you can mix these with the mechanical companion switch. You can only mix a mechanical switch in a 3 way application. Beyond this, you have to use the digital companion dimmers for anything more than a 3 way...I found this out the hard way, after spending a whole day trying to make a mechanical switch works in a 4 way application. Save yourself the headache, it wont work. Overall, it's nice to use the digital companion switches anyway as the mechanical switches throws some boredom into a maestro perfect orchestra. My hope is that they last a few years, given the complex tech.

This is a great switch but you need to understand your setup and how this switch interacts with manual switches versus companion digital switches. Prior to buying I suggest you call Lutton's technical support to understand how to connect and program the switch for the installation you have. They are very helpful and it will eliminate a lot of frustration. I am very satisfied with the switch and their technical support.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LandSurveyor The dimmer worth recommending
We recently remodeled our kitchen and installed LED lighting. We purchased the Lutron Maestro Multi-Location Dimmer with the Maestro Companion. We wanted to have a dimmer for the LEDs because they offer a considerable amount of light. Until we saw the Lutron Maestro Multi-Location Dimmers, the solution was to only control the dimming from one location. With the Lutron Maestro Multi-Location Dimmers, not only can we control the dimming from two locations, each controller remembers the setting last used. Very cool! The instructions were very comprehensible and allowed me to easily install and configure. We liked these controllers so much, we bought another controller for our dinette lighting.

I originally bought one of these in a two-pack including both a master and companion switch. I reaized I needed another companion switch for my hallway and ordered this one. They work great and are not difficult to install as long as you understand the difference in wiring in a three-way or four-way installation. These switches turn the lights off in a smooth fade which is a feature I didn't look for but like very much now that I have experienced it. It allows one to leave the room while the lights are fading after pressing the switch off. The switchplate covers are modern enough to not draw attention to themselves but could also work in more "retro" installations as well. ONE CAUTION, this is a companion switch, you will need a to buy master switch as well in order to control this switch in a 3-way install.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pete Maestro - in 4-way switch configuration
We have two sets lights that are controlled by the Maestro pair we bought together at Home Depot. These are both configured in a 4-way configuration (so three switches) to control overhead can lighting. We used a normal ON-OFF (non-Maestro) switch as our third switch and discovered it shut-down the Maestro switches - turning off the non Maestro switch meant we could not turn on the lights using either of the Maestro switches until the non-Maestro was turned back on.
This companion switch solved the issue. We replaced the non-Maestro ON-OFF switch with the companion Maestro and now we can completely control the lights from any one of the three locations.
BOTTOM LINE: You have to use a companion switch with the Maestro Master. Great Product. We love how it dims and illuminates progresveily, not just instant on- off.
