Answer:
This product has capacitors that control the volts, not the amps in the fan and is only rated to control a fan and not a light. One option that you could use instead to control both from a single unit would be the SFSQ-LFH.

Skylark Contour 1.5-Amp Single-Pole/3-Way Quiet 3-Speed Fan Control - White is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Forget the pull-chain, use this switch! This wall switch does the job. Easy to install and controls the fan speed nicely. It has an off/on switch so you can leave the slider set where you usually have and just turn the fan off or on and it will automatically spin at your preferred speed with no hum.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to control Really easy to install, just be sure to get the correct fan control. Single pole or two location outlet. No longer need chain pull hanging down to control fan speed or difficult to reach. Fan looks neater and cleaner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple & does the job I had purchased electronic radio wave ceiling fan controllers & had lots of problems . (1) I had to many radio control items in my home and they all needed t o be adjusted not to interfere with each other. (2) after adjusting them ham radio operators moved in next door , and because of the inference they all had to be readjusted again . (3) Finally getting them all working together , the static electric burned them out when I touched them. Saying all that , these slider controls had no such problems & they work great.
