Since Lux released a new revision of the TX1500U in 2014 I did not put much weight in the older reviews. I purchased the TX1500U for my commercial office building where I provide heating and cooling. I like that the TX1500U is an inexpensive programmable thermostat. It was very easy to install and program. And one of the biggest features I needed and like is that I can LOCK OUT the thermostat controls to prevent employees from changing the thermostat settings. The TX1500U is a good value and works great!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by StuBeck Didn't work great for 3 years, then programmable aspect stopped working
i bought this to replace a non programmable Honeywell in my house when I bought it 3 years ago. It worked okay, the house never seemed as warm as with the previous one at the same set temperature, but I thought it might have been down to the connectors I installed. Go forward 3 years...and my wife and I are having problems sleeping sometimes because its so warm. Long story short, I realize its because the schedule part of the device has failed. I'll be going back to HD later today and buying a Honeywell again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Donald Lux is the one I specify.
I have been using Lux programmable thermostats for 25 years plus. I put the first one in my house and it is still functioning perfectly. I own multiple residential and commercial rental properties. Never have had a problem with either the thermostats or tenants understanding how to reprogram (simple programming plus instructions that can't be lost printed on the coverplate). Simple to wire. Simple to operate. Reliable. If it fails, just replace the batteries. (I've used three sets of alkaline AA batteries in 25 plus years in my home units).
As for the "buzz" sound when pressing the unit's light button....... sort of like complaining water is wet. 3 seconds of low volume high pitched buzz. Slightly annoying but long enough to change controls from heat to cool or etc but no longer. If you don't like the buzz, turn on a regular light. One zone of my house has my old Lux without light. I have a new lighted Lux to replace it. Obviously not so annoying to me.
I originally started out with Honeywells. I suspect they are easier to program now. 25 years ago they required the manual each time you changed a setting.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by AbbZab Makes Annoying Noise When Back-light is On
I put in two of these over the weekend and so far they appear to be totally functional. Pretty easy to follow the wiring diagram and install too. The only reason I give it two stars is because whenever I push a button and the back-light comes on there is a high pitched electrical whining noise. After about ten seconds the back-light turns off and the noise goes away. There is no option to disable the noise or the back-light. When I called Lux they said it was normal and I'm not going to be pushing buttons on it that often anyway.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by MikkiV Inexpensive Price, inexpensive quality
Are all thermostats created similar, I thought so. Easy to install, inexpensive and reliable. The odd quirk it that if you use the Blue backlight it emits a high frequency beep, suffice it to say I would rather turn on the hall light than hear the beep.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by neddragsto Works only periodically, horrible customer service at LUX
This has all the product features you want, unfortunately, operation is totally unreliable. Works one week, day, month then stops working. I have spent well over $300 for repair to come out. Each time, it traces back to the unit. Customer Service is by message only and they won't call you back.

The thermostat was easy to install and programming it was simple. The unit is nice looking (much better looking than the one it replaced).
