Why is this thermostat called snap action? It looks like a plain old adjustable one to me.

Answer:
All of our line voltage dial thermostats are snap action units. The switch snaps Open or Closed to operate the system which is rated at high voltage and is sturdy enough to handle the electrical load.

Will this work with an old school gravity heater?

I have a gravity heater from the 1950's - i have the pilot lit, but i think my thermostat is not working. It is on it's 2nd honeywell thermostat in 7 years - they seem to go bad fast.
it has 2 wires coming out of the all to the thermo - not color coded (both are black).
my gravity furnace has no duct work, it is a small 1 level townhome with the gravity heater in the crawl space, then the heat either rises to the living room or the other side, the bedroom.
it works great when functioning, so I wanted to try a new thermostat.

Answer:
ozzie, Our thermostats will work with your gravity heater as long as the system has at least 250 MV to the thermostat. If the heating system has less than 250 MV the unit will not work with our thermostats. The pilot generator will have to be replaced and the system will then have over 300MV and the system will now operate. LUX Technical Support

Answer:
Good Afternoon Bett,
Yes this LUX model (T10-1141SA) will work on a 2-wire propane heater. This type of heater likely has a standing pilot light, and is referred to as a Millivolt application. If this can be confirmed, please set the heat anticipator adjustment to 1.2.
