Customer Questions & Answers

Will this product work on the steel entry door?

My steel exterior door has no kerf. I have draft coming from all sides and the top. Will this product help prevent draft. Please give me alternate product recommendation.
Asked by: Anand
Doesn't matter what the door is made of. If the door frame was made for this type of seal they will work. If not the door frame can be modified.

how long are the pieces? It says there is 5?

Asked by: Ricky
I believe this is for a standard 36 x 80 inch door. If your door is smaller you can cut the pieces.

The door seals matched perfectly and went in w/o a hitch. Although you can buy much cheaper seals, these particular 42" White Cinch Door Seal are what was intended to go in the door. They will probably pay for themselves in a year or two due to cost savings from tighter fitting door seals.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product Good door sealer. It works great to keep the draft out in the wintertime. When I ordered it I didn't realize it attaches to the actual door, was thinking it applied to the threshold. Now that I have it installed, my only complaint is that it is not attractive. If you have a nice wood door, this adds a plastic piece that looks kind of cheap. Worthy sacrifice to improve energy savings in my opinion, but if I had a nice walnut wood door, I wouldn't want to use this particular type of door seal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective, but not perfect I'd been looking for an alternative to the worn out foam weather stripping around my front door for a while. Because the door is unevenly mounted, foam that was too thick in some places wouldn't be thick enough in others, or could prevent the door from closing. Using this cinch door seal gets around that, as it forms a seal with the outside of the door (assuming the door opens in). The first challenge in mounting the product is that you need a hacksaw. The product comes pre-cut into 5 equal lengths of door seal, but you'll almost certainly need to cut the one used for the top as well as two of the four lengths used for the sides. Second, I realized that you really have to push the door away from the doorjam while mounting the seal - you cannot just mount the cinch door seal flush against the door in its natural closed position - the bond will not be tight enough. The rubber seal is rather stiff, so pushing the door away while simultaneously mounting the product at least means that when the door closes, it will be jammed against the rubber seal, not rest gently against it. The third thing I realized, and this was a bit late - you CANNOT remove the product to remount it once it is mounted. The 3M sticky material will rip right off the door seal. Thus, I lost an entire length of door seal when I mounted the first one without pushing the door away from the door jam. Once you get the product measured, cut, and adhered to the doorjam (again, making sure to push the door away as you do it), the result is a relatively good seal. I can still see some light coming through around the door jam, so it's probably not airtight (unless the rubber is somewhat transluscent, which I don't think it is). Overall, I think the product is good. I wish the instructions had been a bit more detailed so I didn't have to learn how to mount it through trial and error. Furthermore, I would probably recommend using it in addition to weather stripping for a more airtight seal. In addition, assuming your front door opens into the home, this product has to be mounted on the outside, which means the door seal may negatively affect the aesthetics of your front entry. Perhaps it's better used on a back door.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy install, hope this helps! I had a door that I could see light through the threshold, and so I figured energy was probably escaping through. I ordered this door seal because it looked really easy to install. I opened the package, measured it out, snipped it and applied it to the door. It was that easy. The seal has a self adhesive strip on it, so it is just press and stick. I don't know if this seal saves me anything as I have only had it for a few weeks, but it seems to be making a much tighter seal. I am sure that with the seal, I am losing less heat. Only time will tell if it is a long term solution. I used this seal in conjunction with the bottom seal, so the door has it on all the sides.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Chich Really Seals and goes up in seconds Our situation was a little different than the one in the directions on the Cinch package. But we have tried so many conventional seals with no luck. The inside of our kitchen door is sealed, however the outside is not. The frame is a little uneven and the door does not completely seal on the outside when closed. Whenever it rained the door would swell and become almost impossible to open. We saw Cinch Door Seal in one of our searches to find something, once again, to try to seal it. We thought we might as well give it a try. Nothing else has worked. We put it on the outside of the door instead of the frame. It was so very easy, and quick. Really was a Cinch! Went up in seconds. Cinch, Great Name for a Great Product. You can see in the pictures how it seals. It really works! Got it up just in time for some unusually heavy rain-and it worked! I am so excited we discovered Cinch and It Really Seals.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tough to install when cold I needed to change out the seals on the door jambs this winter because it has been getting very cold, and ice has been building up in the cracks of the door. I installed this kit to keep the ice out. the first day after installation was not so good. I found that the cold had affected the 3m tapes tackiness at install. the easy solution was to heat the adhesive with my wife's hairdryer, as well as the mating surface. worked like a charm. no more ice around the door. and our kitchen is not drafty anymore. the only downside is that you have to trim this with a hacksaw. watch for sharp edges and use a file to knock down some of the burns left over from cutting.
