Customer Questions & Answers

Can this tub be installed on an existing second floor? I'm concerned about the screws for the base.

Asked by: Lydia
Good morning, Yes, the Sax Freestanding can be installed on an existing second floor. You can secure the apron to the floor with the screws or you can secure the apron with silicone adhesive. Since the tub will be secured by the skirt (not to move) the skirt needs to be solid secured to the floor. What is the HD SKU for a flexible overflow and drain kit for this tub?

Many of the reviews talk about the need for flex overflow or drain, but don't say where to get it. Would like to know before we buy the tub and can't find it.
Asked by: jstlucas
Home depot didn't have it Sax recommends theirs but we used one from lowes It uses a rubber hose to the over flow. the floor drain is a standard drain

Sax 5 ft. Freestanding Reversible Drain Bathtub in White with Ruby Apron is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Tub This is a beautiful tub that makes a statement in a modern bathroom renovation. I didn't want a huge tub but it is still deep and roomy. Price is great and money is saved by using deck mounted faucets. Installation was a little tricky but not insurmountable. You can't beat this one for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everyone loves this tub What a great looking tub. All our friends are jealous. We built a 12x12 bath with a ceramic tile shower but still wanted a soak-er tub. My wife loves sitting in it and soaking her day away. I love washing the grandkids after they have been playing in there for hours. The high back rest is so comfortable. The nice thing is that it is made of fiberglass so it was easy to carry up stairs. And it carries a 5 year warranty. We had a plumber/carpenter install it and he said it wasn't hard at all. We chose the white to match the sink and toilet. We even found beautiful Mediterranean Bronze fixtures to match everything else in our bathroom. Yes I would recommend this tub to anyone.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed, should have researched more. Although lovely looking, this tub is fiberglass which we discovered isn't the best material. It looked good from a distance, but sounded hollow and looked cheap up close and so we returned the tub. It was nothing like the solid feeling high quality acryllic tubs and resin tubs that one can find. This is a low price, but definitely was a lower quality tub than what we wanted to put in our home.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Maax Tub My plumber, who is experienced in installing freestanding tubs, said this was the most difficult tub he has ever installed. It is very thin, and in order to improve the insulation he used spray foam in between the inner portion and outer portion. This did help, and the tub holds heat pretty well. Two other issues: he said the tub is mainly intended for second floor installation because the only way to replace the hardware (faucet, etc) is to get at it from the bottom. That isn't happening here now that it is secured to our first floor tile floor. Second issue: In order to level the tub, there had to be a huge at least an inch in some places between the bottom of the tub and the tile floor. My husband used caulk to seal it up and it looked terrible (in my opinion). To fix this, I purchased flexible molding from Amazon, painted it white and glued it on. Overall looks great and gave my bathroom the look I was going for. I recommend checking with a plumber first before you purchase this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful tub This is a very special tub. I needed to find a tub to fit into a small space but I wanted it to be special and beautiful and this one does not disappoint. Plumbing can be internal or on the outside, so fancy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I wanted to buy the bigger version, especially after I saw the reviews about how difficult the installation can be. But my wife wanted a separate shower as well so I had to get a 5ft tub. Looks very upscale and feels comfortable. It feels a bit lighter than what was expecting so it's positive for me. Also, our general contractor and his plumber installed it in less than 20 minutes. I am not a plumber so I don't know why other reviews say it's difficult to handle. It was on sale when I ordered it which made me even happier.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This tub is beautiful installed and so inviting. It was difficult for the plumbers to figure out how to install this free standing tub. We also had to put insulation inside the sleeve before putting the insert in to cut down on the plastic sound of the tub itself.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wife's favorite bathtub A bit of a challenge to install, but my wife loves this tub and it looks just as nice as many of the higher dollar units we checked out. I did line the tub with fiberglass bats so noise and heat retention is not a problem. I found the flex drain on HD online so no problem there as another reviewer had mentioned, but I had to be creative with the drain install. The only negatives I found were related to the backside connection surfaces of the drain and the overflow. I had to file both to smooth them as the rough fiberglass surfaces were very unevenly finished and looked prone to leakage. I agree that the mounting feet could be larger to add stability, but I think that sealing the base to the upper section where they meet will help to stabilize. I am thinking about trying a seal and peel caulk to allow easy removal should I ever need to pull the top half for a plumbing issue, but not sure yet about this idea.
